Aug 11, 2020 PJ Harvey is a queen It’s the album I’m most excited to revisit tomorrow, can’t even remember the last time I heard it. Most fans have wars over Dry or Rid of Me, the former is another I haven’t heard in ages.
Aug 11, 2020 Both 10s for me, but I prefer Rid of Me just cuz of how f---ing chaotic it is. PJ has become my favorite artist over these last few months. Her discography is insane.
Aug 11, 2020 @cpt awesome WPG joint acc once I finish that song with their sample you better get me on top of Billboard chart.
Aug 11, 2020 If u check the liner notes, u will see I’m listed as the album publicist Ok I never told u that uhh tf..
Aug 11, 2020 They're one of those bands that truly wasn't capable of putting out bad music. Been giving this album a spin since you posted and I forgot so many of these songs.
Aug 11, 2020 @Bourbon Ben #5: PJ Harvey - Rid of Me [10/10] To give you an idea of how I discovered this one, lemme take you back to simpler times in SXN80 history. From 2015-16, undoubtedly this forum's zenith, a couple of users had this daily Bohemian Groove gathering in a site called Plug.DJ where each of us would queue a song in a set order. People like Ordinary Joel, Threee, Final, Nori, Deadpool, Soldier, Ben, YDB, Mimi, Coco & Myself to name a couple would venture on there and show off our musical tastes. Those sessions broadened my outlook on music more than I could have imagined, then somewhere along the way, I stumbled onto PJ Harvey. I wish I can remember what exact scenario or algorithm led me to it, but boy was I blown away. That still holds true now that I came back to Rid of Me. Very few records have this visceral, raw energy that palpitates out of it's system in the way this does. This is all down to PJ's unconventional songwriting & dramatic vocal performances; it starts off as something gently building in this well of emotional angst and then erupts once she deems it necessary. The tension that's created by her band only adds to this grungy aura that encompasses this masterpiece, it's meant to make your listen as uncomfortable as possible. I really don't know much more I can say about this album that hasn't already been said, it's one of the seminal alt/indie rock pieces in mankind. If you're brave enough to venture into this dark underworld, you'll be immeasurably rewarded by the performances of this queen. We seriously gotta do a Plug reunion
Aug 11, 2020 It’s crazy they’re one of the greatest bands of all time and yet they were only together for about 5 years. I saw John fogerty perform at the Houston rodeo back in the mid 2000s and it was PHENOMENAL. He played all of CCR’s greatest hits. I don’t venture away from hip hop all that often but CCR is one of the few bands I truly love with a passion. They are legends.
Aug 11, 2020 @Donkey Kong Cuntry #6: Andre Nickatina - Conversations with a Devil [8.2/10] Huge thank you for this dude, I haven't had the chance to ever get around to Dre's catalog, I've only heard I Hate You With A Passion & Tears of a Clown in full. I don't know if I'll get more recommendations from the Bay, so I might as well share a funny story about my last 8th Grade dance. One of my classmate's dad was given the reigns behind the DJ Booth, to say he was dreadful would be an understatement. No one was dancing to the Hokey-Pokey and all these ancient Karen-friendly songs, everyone just looked at the empty dance floor in disgust, it looked like something out of a cheesy prom flick. Who knows how, or why it happened, but after The Beatle's Twist & Shout ended, E-40's Tell Me When To Go blasted through the speakers and everyone spilled onto the dance floor and our dance was saved! That hit single, has nothing to do with this album experience. Yet, that adventurous spirit that seems to be infectious in everyone from the Oakland area exists as I jumped into this dystopian, pimped out world that Andre created. This is for full disclosure a coke rap album (something we seem to have a shared appreciation for), but despite the usually grim depictions that sub-genre has generated, this was actually sort of unorthodox. His punches are clever, the stories are vivid, his flows are unconventional and just when I thought I've heard it all this dude belts out a g.d. ballad in track 3. Altogether I was pleasantly surprised at the range this album contained, heck it makes me appreciate his legendary peer Mac Dre's eccentricities all that much more. If any of you have 6 minutes to spare, go listen to this incredible tune.
