I'll likely be back with a review but Carol is definite masterpiece and holy s---...

In no order (mostly just Carol likely to move around as it sits), top 5 of year includes
Innocence of Memories/Asassin/Carol/Cemetery of Splendour/The Forbidden Room (HM Right Now Wrong Then, Room, Mad Max, others.)

I finally watched Taste of Cherry and am glad that I waited until this point to do so. One of my favorites of the year. You can tell that Nuri Bilge Ceylan takes a lot of notes from Kiarostami. A couple shots from this reminded me of Distant and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. The shots in the industrial quarry and the ending were both incredible. I'm such a sucker for existential pictures. This is up there with the best of them. I cried a few times.

Yep. I've watched a lot of movies this year. Probably the best movie I've seen from the 90s as well.

You guys might want to wait for some subtitles for The Lobster. There are parts in French.

Not yet. I've only watched two Kiarostami pictures so far.

    The Lobster (2015)

A companion picture to the cult favorite Dogtooth (2009), Yorgos Lanthimos once again crafts an absurd, dystopian reality serving as social allegory, this time focusing on societal pressures on single people as well as the bizarre nature of dating/love when viewed through an animistic lens. Despite being the Greek director's English language debut, The Lobster (2015) defies the odds by wholy retaining his pitch black humor, surreal sensibilities, and emotional repression. The endless comparisons to the Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, Charlie Kaufman etc. are easy to make and should be taken as a testament to the scale and execution of his unique vision. 4/5

      The Great Beauty 2013
      ★★★★ Rewatched 14 Dec, 2015

The Great Beauty’s concerted effort to present dual stylistic features complements its narrative appraisal of splashes of beauty within frivolity. While I found myself more appreciative of the moments of contemplation and spiritual grace than portrayals of the eccentricities of the ‘high life’, I understa...

      [REVIEW] 98/100 - CAROL (Todd Haynes, 2015)

'Carol is Haynes’ ode to cinema. It is the cinema as life. It is the cinema as craft. It is the cinema as supernatural. There is little that has existed before in cinema which does not exist in Hayne’s masterpiece. Carol is the culmination of cinematic art in the year 2015. It crossed borders, boundaries, and lengths of time to be realized by Haynes in the contemporary present. Carol is truly a film of the ages.'

An intense and affecting though at times hyper-stylized recreation of true events. Cinematically and narratively hyperbolic.

      75/100 - Very Good.
