Jan 21, 2016 I do like the idea of making it this simple to change your avy as well (with a pencil near the avy). but would that be too much hovering and too many pencils for such a small space?
Jan 21, 2016 True but if you make that pencil real small it won't be noticeable or even a paint brush
Jan 21, 2016 Maybe just clicking the avy, instead of leading to your profile should lead to change avy page
Jan 21, 2016 Not tryna act too important, but as I've created simplified mockups for the dropdown-menu, an additional pencil might really be too much. A solution would be to replace 'People I Ignore' with 'Avy'. Long-term wise, people will rather change their avy than see who they ignore.
Jan 21, 2016 mentioned this like the day before launch, but was too late to implement at the time... @Loyalty we should have a rollover effect, similar to portal on the avatar in account dropdown. function in same way (no pencil, that's obtrusive and too busy) as portal, but visually should only have the gray highlight on rollover appear on the bottom 1/3 of the circle. i can mock it up if that doesn't make sense.
Jan 21, 2016 People I Ignore will def be the first to get swapped out from the dropdown. but i would prefer to take the approach above ^. cleaner, consistent with portal, intuitive.
Jan 21, 2016 Good point, consistency is probably best. Should be doable, I'll work on it when I can. Thanks for your feedback @FullSpeed, @able, @Immy Clicking your username in the dropdown already goes to your profile anyway
Jan 21, 2016 @Slyk @Loyalty Got a few more visual suggestions for the dropdown-menu since we're talking about it. I've made a quick mockup (the current menu is one the left side, the suggested mockup is on the right side), here we go: Spoiler: Mockup Suggestions: - decreasing the size of the Settings-box since it's kinda interfering with the avy - slightly darkening the color of 'Update your status...' in order to improve the visibility - if possible: widening the buttons field and the lines, the right side isn't as close to the edge as the left side. - moving the icon a little bit up (the icon position and size is kinda inconsistent on SXN80 in general, sometimes the icon is small and kinda up, sometimes it's kinda down). In my opinion, the position in the mockup is the best one..
Jan 21, 2016 -one or two other people mentioned that the settings box doesn't sit quite right at times, and decreasing may be the way to go when we take a look at that -agreed with update your status font darkening -don't think we can afford to widen the fields -- i had to condense a little bit when you (?) mentioned that it was wider than the screen on smaller resolution mobile devices, so had to set maximum widths on there, etc. to make it work across all platforms -user icons are going to be re-worked site-side. hasman's got some new images in the works and we'll adjust everywhere at that point, since i'm pretty sure there's float issues in a few other places as well. per usual, solid input thanks.
Jan 21, 2016 Sounds good and yeah, that was me who mentioned the dropdown menu problem on smaller resolution smartphones. The width is not too much of a problem, but since all of us are perfectionists, I thought I'd mention it. Two more things which are important when you visit SXN80 as a guest: Spoiler: Guest View The 'Log In or Sign up' box interferes with with the buttons when you're not viewing SXN80 in fullscreen mode. What 6OD mentioned (removing a few of those buttons up there for guests even tho he had a different reason for that suggestion) seems like a good solution. Keeping the Portal and the search button are important as f--- in my opinion tho. In all sections (while viewing as a guest), the avys interfere with the text. The reserved place where the unread dot usually is might not be necessary at all for guests.
Jan 21, 2016 Thanks @able, bookmarking your posts so we can look into each of these things when we have time.
Jan 21, 2016 We actually had it like a year ago briefly but it didn't work correctly so it was disabled, Koolo probably thought of it. But we got a newer version when we started working on 2.0
