    My 2 favorite comedy shows ever. Both had a great cast and great writers behind them. I'ma roll with The Office though, hard to beat that cast

    These are my top 2 comedies as well, very tough choice. I've probably seen every episode of each show like a dozen times.

    But I will vote The Office by a hair

    2 amazing shows.

    Friends is a "last resort if nothing's on" type of show. It's inoffensive. Some likeable characters.
    The Office is a lot better written. Michael Scott >*

    Loved both shows but what really helps me vote is the later season comparisons. All shows that are successful usually jump the shark at some point to milk every last penny. I feel like Friends was still watchable when it did and the Office was kind of unbearable towards the end, for me at least.

    I don't feel like that's a fair comparison. The Simpsons is still one of the best shows of all time regardless of it trailing off in the last decade plus.

    It was one of the best shows ever...no one's watched the simpsons in the past 10 years lol. If you listen to an album and the first few tracks are amazing and then it slowly turns to s--- is it still a classic? Is Eminem still a great rapper since his first few albums were great? I think it's fair to compare shows as a whole. I'll agree that Michael Scott is the best character between both shows by far. Again, I think it's close but I think Friends takes the edge by having more watchable episodes

    I agree that seasons 8-9 of The Office weren't as good, but after rewatching a few times, the addition of Robert California and Nate bring a lot to the show. RC is hilarious with his weird sexual stuff and Sesame Street references. I look forward to season 8 when I rewatch now.

    I do think the season 9 story of Jim/Pam and their problems with the boom mike guy are reaching for plot points though and I dislike it a lot.

    On the other hand the last seasons of Friends are great but they give Joey some terrible plots and really dumb him down - like when he is on Pyramid and when he's trying to learn French. :sad3:


    Both shows' series finales were perfect though!

    I think the character of Michael Scott is one of a kind and probably one of the funniest. I feel like The Office was pure comedy with little and small storylines.

    Friends was more of a complete show that was really funny as well but not funnier than The Office. I was a fan of all the characters in Friends but i couldnt say the same for The Office, it wasnt the same after Michael left...

    Its really tough but I'll go with Friends. Both are in my top five sitcoms of all-time

    I'd rather have a 10 great seasons of The Simpsons than 100 samey seasons of Friends. Friends was just such a bland, feel good, day-time television type show. It's basically a poor man's Seinfeld. A guilty pleasure show you can put on and do something else to. When The Simpsons was on point, they were ON POINT. A 10 year old could watch it and laugh at somebody getting hit in the nuts and a middle aged person could pick up on a Dr. Strangelove parody in the same episode. It's honestly blasphemy to even compare the two.

    I regret never getting into The Simpsons. My older brothers would always watch it and laugh there a--- off, but i never took the time to watch with them.

    They need to get it on Netflix..

    Whoa, I never compared Friends to Simpsons?? I said I thought Friends has more watchable episodes than The Office which is the discussion at hand. Simpsons was innovative, paved the way for cartoons for adults and went through just about every topic there is which is why no one's watched it in the last 10 years because it's hard to come up with ideas after doing all the good ones. You threw in the Simpsons comparison asking if its lows effect the series as a whole, and it does if you want to rate the series.

    I did go off on a tangent, but it was all about quality > quantity. Just because The Office jumped the shark doesn't mean that its 5-6 great seasons lose out to Friend's 10 middle-of-the-road seasons.
