    to echo @Loyalty here, how perfect is this cover for this album??

    still love this record, especially as I've revisited it lately. But I also still see it as comfortably Kanye's worst

    This was a nice read @Big Cuntry! A great throwback and nostalgic piece.


    Sidenote - I was adding Graduation to Title Drops and came across this on Genius which I never knew, and thought was funny:

    "You got D's, muthafucka D's, Rosie Perez"

    Rosie Perez criticized Kanye for this line:

    I’m a woman of a certain age and if you’re gonna mention me in a song, have a little respect. He mentions my breasts. When you walk down the street and you have 15-year-old boys.. and they’re like, ‘Yo, Rosie, D’s D’s, Rosie Perez,’ it’s no good

    This line is also a reference to the 1989 Spike Lee joint “Do the Right Thing” in which the character Radio Raheem yells at the Asian store clerk for D batteries for his boom box: “I want D’s MFer, Ds!!!” (Rosie Perez plays Mookie’s girlfriend in the film)



    I’m guessing Rosie didn’t catch the allusion..

    Update: Rosie Perez reveals she was flattered by the line.

    I go back and forth on Pablo, Grad, and Late Registration being his worst, but the fact that three albums of that quality are in contention for his worst album speaks volumes about his discography.

    I've grown to like Graduation a lot more over the years whereas I like Late Registration less than I used to.

    Yup great piece. Grad isn't his best work but it has such a distinct sound on the album the whole way through. It's such a breeze to listen to front to back and some of the Grad cuts like Bittersweet Poetry are amazing. It probably has some of his best quotables too.

    Grad is his 4th best album imo.

    Honestly this album got me into Hip-Hop. Will never forget hearing Good life every morning on the radio before heading off to school. Good times

    I'm a fan of Barry Bonds, Drunk & Hot Girls and Big Brother are pretty mediocre though.

    This world would be a better place with a @Big Cuntry review for every Ye album.

    Awesome review, it's one of my favorite albums in a vacuum--the highlights on here Im sure I've played once a day since they came out 10 years ago. It's his least fascinating work on the surface, but it's probably a great starting point for like casual or new fans since it's so accessible and as you said, was the bridge from Ye with the Rocafella chain to Ye the jet-setting rock star that he became.
