@SHUDEYE is right, start with The State vs. Radric Davis - its' by far his most accessible, most popular album. But Gucci's released so much music, i don't think its fair to point to a single project. I'd recommend the following (in this order):
post State v. Radric Davis era Gucci:
Its mostly agreed that Gucci was probably at the peak of his power circa 2009 - 2013. This was most influential, fat, lean-drinking, pill-popping, Jeezy ethering Gucci, before he went to jail and the period in which he helped introduce the world to Chief Keef, Waka Flocka, Young Thug, Migos and more. He released so many mixtapes in this period its almost impossible to keep track. I still havent listened to about half of them. But the absolute standouts imo:
2012 - Trap Back
2012 - Trap God
2013 - Trap House III
There are plenty more from this period worth checking out (Burrprint 3D, Writing on the Wall, Mr. Zone 6) but the above 3 are my personal favorites.
Post- Jail Gucci
Wop got out of jail in 2016 and started dropping music literally from the first day out . His output in the last 3 years hasnt been as received as his earlier music but there have been a few sensational standouts.
2017 - Drop Top Wop - entirely produced by Metro Boomin, this is not only Gucci's best post-jail album but one of his best of all time imo
2016 - Everybody Lookin
2018 - Evil Genius / 2019 - Delusions of Grandeur
Early Days Gucci
Its insane to think the music Gucci put out way back in 2005 is still impacting and influencing music today. I havent dug as deep into this part of his discography as I would have liked but plenty of incredible material from this era too:
2005 - Trap House
2006 - Chicken Talk
2008 - The Movie
If I had to distill this down even further, I'd say start with The State vs. Radric Davis. Then try Trap Back for older Gucci, then try Everybody Looking for newer Gucci. From there the rest should follow.icecube, SHUDEYE and Ordinary Joel like this. -
