Nov 22, 2016 “Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!” That’s how Richard B. Spencer saluted more than 200 attendees on Saturday, gathered at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., for the annual conference of the National Policy Institute, which describes itself as “an independent organization dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States, and around the world.” Spencer has popularized the term “alt-right” to describe the movement he leads. Spencer has said his dream is “a new society, an ethno-state that would be a gathering point for all Europeans,” and has called for “peaceful ethnic cleansing.” For most of the day, a parade of speakers discussed their ideology in relatively anodyne terms, putting a presentable face on their agenda. But after dinner, when most journalists had already departed, Spencer rose and delivered a speech to his followers dripping with anti-Semitism, and leaving no doubt as to what he actually seeks. He referred to the mainstream media as “Lügenpresse,” a term he said he was borrowing from “the original German”; the Nazis used the word to attack their critics in the press. “America was until this past generation a white country designed for ourselves and our posterity,” Spencer said. “It is our creation, it is our inheritance, and it belongs to us.” The audience offered cheers, applause, and enthusiastic Nazi salutes. Here is the video, excerpted from an Atlantic documentary profile of Spencer that will premiere in December 2016. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/11/richard-spencer-speech-npi/508379/
Nov 22, 2016 Hey man, they just wanted better healthcare and tax breaks. They aren't responsible for their vote enabling a group of extremists or putting Steve Bannon in the White House.
Nov 22, 2016 i hate resorting to pithy truisms about ~americans~ but the "temporary embarrassed millionaires" bit is so consistently true. (largely white) middle americans so often vote against their economic self-interest because they imagine themselves as part of the financial elite.
Nov 22, 2016 "Joe (Sam) the Plumber (unlicensed plumber assistant)" Is the clearest example of this mindset. He confronted Candidate Obama in 2008. Became a Republican hero by calling Obama a "socialist" because his plan of raising taxes on the 1% would hurt him because he planned on being rich. At the time he never made more than $40,000 in a year. These people are delusional and useful idiots to the GOP.
Nov 22, 2016 Aw cmon it's not too bad. I'm sure these extremists supported Obama as well when he was in office
Nov 22, 2016 I call it "temporarily displaced billionaire disorder"... I honestly think this is where the GOP gets the majority of their votes. I work with a bunch of people with this mindset. They are hood rich white people who drive $50k pickups... are jealous of people on welfare and are worried the Koch brothers are paying too much in taxes. These people definitely listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin... think they are smart because of that (even though I can always debunk anything they heard off the top of my head). The majority of the posters on the d12world debate & politics subforum in 2004 were like this... they thought John Kerry voters were stealing from their future earnings and George W. Bush was a brilliant war time strategist .
Nov 22, 2016 Unfortunately I grew up in a town full of these exact types. I didn't know this was an actual thing but I never understood why a bunch of oilfield shitheads who made 40-80k a year thought they were part of the 1%. You nailed it with the 50 thousand dollar lifted pick up trucks though lmao.
Nov 22, 2016 Isn't it better to have a mindset to succeed and fake it till you make it rather than accept being a poor piece of s--- for the rest of your life
Nov 22, 2016 "the most despicable creatures who ever walked the planet" -Donald 'The Don' Trump. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38069469
Nov 22, 2016 (he was talking about the alt-right, neo nazis, nationalists or whatever. Not minorities - just realized my quote could be miss understood easily lol)
Nov 23, 2016 If the guys @reservoirGod is talking about are anything like the ones I know they have zero ambitions of ever actually making it. They're fine spending their lives faking it.
Nov 23, 2016 No I was not in the video but I do know a couple people there. This man made some great points and its such a breath of fresh air. We're finally standing up and its beautiful.
