Nov 23, 2014 I see alot of people saying that 2014 has been a terrible year for rap music. I disagree, however, it has been a very boring year. There was alot of brilliant releases, but alot of releases went over our heads. Here are some examples of albums that dropped this year: Freddie Gibbs | Pinata SchoolBoy Q | Oxymoron Logic | Under Pressure Ab Soul | These Days Isaiah Rashad | Cilvia Demo Blu | Good To Be Home Young Jeezy | Seen It All Mayday & Murs | Mursday Atmosphere | Southsiders Rittz | Next To Nothing Strange Music | Strangeulation CunninLynguists | Strange Journey Volume: III The Roots | …And Then You s---t Your Cousin YG | My Krazy Life 50 Cent | Animal Ambition Rick Ross | Mastermind G-Unit | Beauty Of Independence Joe Budden | Some Love Lost Saigon | G.S.N.T. 3 Run The Jewels | Run The Jewels II Big K.R.I.T. | Cadillactica Rick Ross | Hood Billionaire What are your thoughts?
Nov 23, 2014 i think it was really good and we still getting at least kanye album and two new e-40 albums before end of the year
Nov 23, 2014 It was a good year, but yeah there have been better years. Pinata is still my favourite, still listen to it a lot. Just listened to Rick Ross new album but I don't really like it. Still need to check out run the jewels II.
Nov 23, 2014 i dont think kanye's album is dropping this year. i wish it was though, that would be an amazing end to the year.
Nov 23, 2014 i thought he was having a listening party for the album like a month ago and it was done?
Nov 23, 2014 wow this list shows how out of touch I am with rap this year. Pinata is the only one I've listened to (and it is excellent) the albums on my radar for the short term are what's coming from Kanye, GFK, ASAP Rocky, Kendrick and Fashawn
Nov 23, 2014 I made a similar list on SL in the last topic, but 2014 has been a GREAT f---ing year for rap in my opinion. 2013 was probably slightly better, but I've gotten varying milage out of these: Piñata - MaddGibbs Run the Jewels 2 - Killer Mike & El-P Cilvia Demo - Isaiah Rashad Cadillactica - Big K.R.I.T. My Krazy Life - YG Days Before Rodeo - Travis Scott Dark Comedy - Open Mike Eagle Your Old Droop EP - Your Old Droog Good to Be Home - Blu h--- Can Wait - Vince Staples Rich g--- Mixtape - Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan Convertibles - Chuck Inglish Oxymoron - Schoolboy Q Faces - Mac Miller Jimmy the Burnout - Nocando Flying Lotus - You're Dead! Clppng - Clipping NehruvianDOOM - MF Doom & Bishop Nehru ...and then you s---t your cousin - The Roots Nobody's Smiling - Common Mastermind - Rick Ross Neon Icon - Riff Raff (well, just a few songs, but you kinda get what you expect with a Riff Raff album) I still listen to My Krazy Life, Days Before Rodeo, Cilvia Demo, and Piñata regularly. RTJ2 and Cadillactica are still pretty new but I've been listening to those a lot as well. I'll paraphrase what I said on SL: people who say 2014 is a s-----y year for rap are probably either growing out of the genre (which is fine, but you shouldn't make blanket statements), not looking hard enough/listening out of their comfort zone, or are one of those 40-year-old dudes who post on the Lil Wayne facebook page about how much better Afrika Bambaataa is.
Nov 23, 2014 pin'ata mega philosophy stepbrothers dream zone archive refugee gz ii godz back from the dead 2 run the jewels 2 blacc hollywood sincerely yours
Nov 24, 2014 Been awhile since I listened to the whole thing but I really only listen to Introducing the Icon, How to be the Man, Aquaberry Dolphin, Tip Toe Wing in My Jawdinz, and Kokayne at this point. I like pretty much all of the production though, I should give it another spin.
Nov 24, 2014 to be honest, one of the weaker years in recent memory. Still, a few really great albums (Pinata, Run the Jewels, My Krazy Life, a few others).
Nov 24, 2014 Really, it hasn't been too bad, only because your (and my) favorite artists haven't released anything, but 2015 will be one of the best, probably better than 2013, which was fantastic. -Kanye -Kendrick and Jay Rock -Aftermath/NWA movie -Drake -Tha Carter V (Pt. 2) -Dre possibly dropping (lol)
Nov 25, 2014 It certainly hasn't been a bad year - although most of the albums i was initially anticipating turned out sucking.
