Nov 26, 2014 I posted this on KTT, but f--- it. I absolutely love Schoolboy Q's ''Oxymoron'' album. I know its not what people expected but for some reason it really clicked with me. I have always somewhat liked Q, maybe not all his music, but a good amount of it, but Oxymoron is probably his most consistent project to date & a brilliant debut album, its clear Q isnt a lyrical rapper, but he sure knows how to make well crafted tracks. Its is my favorite rap album of this year, i know Gibb's album is way better lyrically & production wise, i just connected with Oxymoron more. Here are my issues though: - They made a mistake on Man of the year, as they mastered the clean version of the track to be used on the album but at the last moment they added the swearing back in, its very evident during the hook as the swear words are very low volume wise, so they f----- up with that. - The beginning of Hoover Street was a terrible decision, but i edited it out & made sure the track starts perfectly. - I feel pusher man shouldnt of been an individual track, i think it should of been labelled as an interlude. I added it to the end of ''Grooveline Pt.2'' & d---, it works brilliant. Overall the track is already quiet chilled out but adding pusher man to the end really adds to the chilled out vibe. - ''His & Her Friend'' shouldnt of been an individual track either. I added it to the end of ''Studio'' & since the end of ''Studio'' has the track ending with a break it makes it seem that His & Her Friend is actually a part of ''Studio'' which is dope as h--- If anyone ever wants me to send them the edited versions just let me know & ill send them asap.
Nov 26, 2014 I like most of the songs on Oxymoron, but as an album, it just feels bloated to me. The sum of its parts are greater than the whole, for me at least. There are too many long songs in a row, and just too many songs period including all the bonus tracks. It was to the point that, when it first leaked, I had no idea where the non-deluxe version was even supposed to end.
