Aug 4, 2016 Nastradamus was an awful album but he somehow managed to make this song for the album. Granted, the beat still kinda sucks on this song but Life We Chose is arguably a top 10 Nas track. They never know we enemies til they hear me say it, til their kids on the phone saying, "please Daddy pay it"
Aug 4, 2016 in my opinion, it's not even bad. it's just worse than all his other ones. It's just an album where Nas can't keep the concept down.
Aug 4, 2016 ya'll making it seems like it's as trash as Encore or Rebirth...there's a bunch of really good songs on this album;
Aug 4, 2016 If we're talking about the album that features Come Get Me & God Love Us then yeah, it was awful. My bad lol
Aug 4, 2016 He released I Am and Nastradamus within 7 months of each other. I Am was supposed to be a double disc but because of leaks they hurried the release and he recorded the Nastradamus tracks in 7 months along with some tracks that were supposed to be on I Am...he was trying to go more commercial on those albums
Aug 4, 2016 I only liked the Premo song on Nastradamus. Not going to lie, I do own the album but only because I got it for cheap and because I own all of Nas' work. I remember buying I Am and under the CD, they advertised Nastradamus. At that time, everybody was hyped for more Nas material. It kind of looked like Nas was trying to pull a DMX by dropping 2 albums in one year.
Aug 5, 2016 @Soldier a few reasons for the awful album by the GOAT. He was becoming commercialized at the time. I Am, although IMO a great album, started the process. Also, as @Worm said, I Am and Nastradamus were made within 7 months of each other too.. Plus, a HUGE reason that the album was bad was because Nas was focused on his dying mother at the time. He mentioned it in a few songs and interviews. He barely could focus on it. Granted, she didn't die until 2002, but he raps about it in Last Real n----- Alive. Jay Z really jolted his career though. Without Takeover, Nas probably would've continued a downward spiral. In saying all of that, Nastradamus still remains one of the biggest disappointments ever for me. I remember buying it as a CD (I used to buy tapes, but Nastradamus was one of the first albums I bought as a CD), all excited and just stood with a vacant expression listening to it. Awful.
Aug 5, 2016 I remember being so excited for this exact reason. Especially the DMX comparison too. I clearly remember opening I Am and seeing Nastradamus coming and lost my s--- lol.
Aug 5, 2016 I find the biggest fault with this album was the lack of direction it had, it never got to settle with you and usually with Nas' albums he has a theme thats going on and with this one it's very apparent it was poorly prepared. Sad part is his rapping wasn't at the standard we know he is capable of either but he did show a couple of glimpses on it.
Aug 5, 2016 I gave the album two listens and never again. Not gonna lie, I hold a complete grudge against it. 14 year old me hasn't forgotten.
