Apr 13, 2017 Both. It's made music more accessible, it's made the music industry more profitable as a whole, and it's helped minimize the effects piracy has had on the music industry. It's also has led to changes in the way some artist release albums. Apple/tidal/Spotify exclusives makes it harder for listeners to listen to albums. It's also led to artist releasing 17-20 song albums to take advantage of the 1500 streams = 1 album rule. And streaming only works for the top tier artist.
Apr 13, 2017 mostly in how ppl listen to music went from artists focusing on dropping consistent albums so that ppl buy the cd, now the focus is more on releasing tracks ppl add to their playlists which is why i usually like free mixtape releases over albums and digital albums only released on streaming platforms. the focus is different
Apr 13, 2017 Has definitely made music more accessible to everyone. You can listen to anything you want with a monthly subscription as opposed to only listening to albums and songs you had purchased for your library. It kind of negatively affects artists because album sales have decreased, but with the novelty of vinyl coming back indie/alternative artists can still make decent bank on the release of new records. Plus the added exposure to new audiences thanks to streaming platforms increases the fanbase of artists and in turns helps them out more with concert bookings and album/artist/tour merch.
