Interesting to read, but no value at all as far as forming my opinion

yes exactly, i think there will always be value in someone, with a context they've earned over whatever time span they've covered the medium, breaking down an art piece and offering an informed opinion

but my question is in respect to the value consumers gain from reviews, and if it affects their decision making at all still.

lately since I started working 9-5 and living alone in my own place I only keep up with music magazines etc to know what is going on with music and to listen to these reviewed albums, no matter the score etc.

For example I found this on twitter lately, either WPG or Big Cuntry liked some post with this link, and it has a lot of really valuable content to me: new artists! https://www.passionweiss.com/2018/07/10/pow-freshmen-15/ but its not a review tho

yea idk where am i going with this post, what I meant to say is I follow p4k etc cause these people have so much more time than me to keep up with music (its their job), and I can know whats ging on etc without putting much effort in it. Like Im way more likely to read some review of an album from some dude I never heard about than, for example, Drake

Find me any pitchfork review article with as many views as Fantano, quint, dehh, Shawn cee etc etc etc. I'll wait.

YOU are what's fading out and thats what your post unsurprisingly tip toes over, magazines aren't a part of the equation and haven't been in well over a decade. Reaction/review YouTubers are the platform now

Lol all you want it's a fact. Show me any lick of evidence otherwise. Ironic you who says daddy Yankee is your interest outside of rap would have something against fantano.

If Fantano called up p4k said he wants to work with them but they have to fire @JMG & @WPG how long do you think that decision will take? As long as it takes to call them and say they're fired.

Again show me ANY evidence that proves otherwise I will wait

complex/fader/etc etc etc fall under "magazines" here, obviously, let's not play semantics

serious criticism has always mattered to the course and history of every artistic medium. you can post whatever views metrics you want, it won't change that.

Could of sworn he said he did maybe it was another platform idk but the point is still the same.

I agree with you that critics still matter but magazine / standard review outlets whether physical or digital have taken a back seat to those like Fantano an independent YouTuber

Of course swizz is the only “no, I still rely on them”’ to support his boy wpg lol

If I like the album, I usually don’t bother with reviews. Like scorpion, for example. Now when a big artist on the decline like eminem makes a terrible album , I do enjoy watching critics rip the album apart. I did enjoy wpg’s mmlp2 review and made me laugh irl. The part where he mentioned eminem being over 40 and the “oink oink oink, doink doink doink” part. It was hilarious but very accurate and was just being honest.

no. they're different things. youtube reaction videos and serious critical writing are not competing in the same lanes; the only people who argue that they are are the people who make the former and are arguing for more ad dollars.

P4k lost the last straw of credibility when every Wyoming album review had a trump reference

Fantano doesn't react Fantano does exactly what you do but in video format and you're delusional if you think he couldn't call p4k and replace any of you as a review writer

sure, fantano does ~criticism~ but no one who thinks seriously about music or about criticism thinks there's any depth there. he's popular! but he isn't particularly good.

never cared for reviews. To me, music is a hard thing to make an argument for, especially nowadays. Therefore, I don’t care too much about the rating an album receives.

What I do like about reviews is that someone might point out something I didn’t notice. So it’ll give me a different perspective. But other than that, I couldn’t careless about the rating

But YOURE good right? But pitchfork thinks seriously about music when they mention Trumps political on goings in a MUSIC review or what musicians they feel are misogynistic without those themes being any where near the album? Yeah OK bud you're delusional

Worst part is p4k uses these factors completely unrelated to the music itself in their score. How is TLOP a 9 but ye is a 6? Because pitchfork doesn't agree with his comments outside of the music and that alone is disgusting
