Can we back up and address OutKAst for a second?

Because the only way they qualify for having the most consistent discography is if we pretend Speakerboxxx/Love Below & Idlewild don't exist.

Also if were talking about most consistent discographies than what about Ghostface Killah? I haven't gotten through his entire discography yet so I don't know for sure but most descriptions I've seen (I think) praise him for being consistent over the years.

Your missing the point.. did you read his post? Nobody dismisses Kanye, but Jay and Nas should be in this conversation.. before Kanye.

Find a sound that people like and maintain it throughout your entire career without changing.

    Example: Kid Ink

He had two albums. That's barely a discography.

Jay & Nas both have at least 2 classics. Better is a matter of opinion, but they definitely have more.

Jay is one of my favorite rappers but it's hard to argue that he has a consistent discography. It's sort of all over the place

Yeah he does. I'm okay with Nas having 2, but Jay has Vol. 3, Reasonable Doubt, TBA, The Blueprint, and depending on who you ask, Vol. 2 & AG.

I can't convince you, but i'll recheck them to make sure if i still stand by this..

RD and Blueprint are Jay's only classics and imo Kanye's peaks are waaaay higher than Jay's, i find Jay mostly boring and his image to me seems like that of a 'fake creative gangster'.

IDK, I mean, Reasonable Doubt to Black Album (minus Dynasty) were pretty d--- popular, and regarded as good to great albums during the time period.

In hindsight, sure, it seems a bit inconsistent, but I remember no one being disappointed by a Jay Z album, until Kingdom Come (which honestly, was pretty solid, but I remember it being a letdown to most), and then he responded well with American Gangster and BP3, which most people supported.

Nas has two albums that people have downed.

Nastradamus, obviously, and Untitled. The rest of his albums, when released, were fairly popular amongst fans of his and hip hop.

To me, there are two ways of rating whether or not an album is a classic. Your own perception of the album, and the perception of the genre. Nas and Jay Z, during their time periods, were very consistent, probably even more-so than Kanye.

Like, I might consider God's Son a classic, but I know that most people when it was released were overall pleased, but not raving about it. Nas, to me, might have 4 classic albums (Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, and if you want to consider Lost Tapes), and a bunch of good/great albums. Jay Z has 3 classic albums (RD, BP, Black Album), and a bunch of good/great albums.

I know Kanye gets a ton of love online, and especially on this board, and I love Kanye's music... But 808's and Yeezus, although genius in their own right, are not considered classics to most fans, even most Kanye fans outside of the internet.

Usually, overall consensus is Kanye's first 3 albums were amazing, 808's was ehh, MBDTF is great and Yeezus was ehh.

Jay Z's inconsistency was more to do with everything after Black Album, which was supposed to be his last album. He was releasing an album every year from 96 to 03, and they were all either classics or really good. He didn't have to come back after that.

Nas fell off after I Am, released Nastradamus/Bravehearts, then came back with a vengeance with Stillmatic, God's Son and Lost Tapes.

Mind you, if Nas and Jay didn't get pulled into making double disc albums, BP2 and Street's Disciple could've been classics as well. The highlights of both albums were incredible.

And don't take this as I'm downing Kanye either. Put it this way, Nas and Jay are my 1 and 2.

Also, how I grade Nas/Jay is very different on how I would grade a Kanye album. I listen to Kanye more for his production, while I listen to Jay/Nas more for their rapping abilities. Obviously, I love when they both have great production.

I don't go into a Kanye album expecting the greatest lyricism. Not to say he's bad, but I don't consider him on the same grading curve as Jay/Nas.
