^i think the difference here, even if true, is he's lost the zeitgeist. there's a thread through mike myers/taylor to MAGA, etc., sure. but now it comes off exceedingly stupid, or empty, or just out of touch and s-----y.

Personally I'm not opposing Trump at all so maybe I'm biased here but I don't think he really said anything outlandish. Silly things, sure, like the TMZ monologue, but that's just Kanye being a poor public speaker. A lot of his statements are taken out of context, if you listen to his Charlamagne interview he articulates his points quite well. You have to read between the lines in almost all of his public appearances nowadays, part of it is him being poor at explaining himself well, part of it is him just being outlandish like BILL COSBY INNOCENT!!!! I dont think the current Kanye is all that different from the one of a few years ago.

Anyhow, lets just hope he delivers with Yandhi. The fact he postponed it definitely gives me hope

i think there are common threads in his personality, of course, between the two eras, but i don't agree with you at all here @Brubbels. "george bush doesn't care about black people" is reflective of what was happening –– and what people were too polite/restrained to say –– in a way "republicans freed the slaves" is not

His current instability really makes you wonder whether he was just in the right place at the right time with the right random thought in his head.

Looking back at the public record, his judgement in terms of non-music statements has always been — at best — 50/50.
