If Eminem died then he would be known for what "could of been" or people would say he died to soon and he would be a legend. If Eminem died today he would be known as the greatest of all time, (I.e. Michael Jackson) because he came back and reinvented himself and became relevant again.

Obviously if eminem died in 2003, he would be viewed in an entirely different way.

Regardless of whether or not you think he had 3 classics at that point, they were pretty great albums. Include Devils night into the mix, and he has four.

I think it would be very hard for someone to make an argument that he wouldn't be top 5 DOA had he died

i think his references/overall quality of music would've still lost their sheen over time...there are a lot of incredible rappers deserving to be in the top 5 doa

as far as notoriety/being as mythologized as biggie or pac, yeah for sure...but people already do that to him even tho he's had 10 less than great years

I kind of agree.. Can't remember the last time I had an urge to go back and listen to any of his first three albums.

Doesn't take away from the fact he very well might have been the best rapper alive (maybe all time) at that point.

Tbh Eminem is already viewed as a Pac or Jay Z or even bigger.

First 3 albums helped him secure his place in hiphop

Recovery helped him secure it all over the world just as an artist in general.

If Eminem died in '03 he would have been considered the GOAT. Many people say that now, but he would have had an incredible, flawless run. I would 100% say that.

Lets face it, regardless of how much you like of his work since, he basically achieved everything in those 4 years. There was nowhere to go but down.

Anyways tbh it wouldn't matter if Eminem died in 03 or not. When he dies, he's going to be crowned the greatest (possible Musician) of all time. MJ wasn't even socially accepted when he passed, the very mentioning was his name was a like a punchline. The day he passed, it became "GOAT". All cause he died. Imagine Eminem, who has peoples respect.

Even if you see people bash him on social media or forums, remember, that's the vocal minority. The man's 10 years past his prime, reclusive and slightly over the hill and outsells everyone else in hip hop today, and he still has the majority's respect. Not to mention the media is going to absolutely ride his d-ck, probably even harder than they would have in 03'. Only real difference between today and 03 is that in 03 there's a "what if" factor considering the muthafucka's last single was LOSE YOURSELF.
