Had a feeling 4:44 would be mentioned lol. 4:44 didn’t have the same impact that M.A.A.D City did. It was just a really good Jay Z album. I actually never even heard it being called an “instant classic” by fans or critics.

I’m not saying albums you think should be classics (no offense), more like ones people KNOW are classics. Another example would be MBDTF. Widespread acclaim by everybody along with crazy impact. The feeling is just unique and EVERYBODY feels it. Also it'll be impossible for someone to recreate GKMC or MBDTF.

But maybe 4:44 is just a slower burn. I just don't see it personally. It'll definitely look good in Jay's discog though

I'm not gonna let some dweeb on an Internet forum tell me GKMC is not a classic hip hop album lol.

People who actually know what they're talking about know it is across the board.

Butterfly, like I said in the OP, has too much controversy around it. I personally think it's an instant classic. Kendrick's best and most complex album. Recently, Charlemagne also revealed that he thinks the album is indeed incredible and ahead of it's time. But the impact wasn't as receptive as GKMC. GKMC put the entire game on watch. People tried to make their own versions of it and everything. Impact. Kendrick literally shot into Top 3 rapper because of this album. Even was being put into the GOAT conversation as well as being compared to Illmatic. INSTANTLY.

I remember so many people who weren't even into rap telling me "HEY, you heard that Kendrick album?" I even put people who hated Kendrick onto him because of that album. Drake coming out saying it was the "last great concept album" , major praise from legends etc.
It was just so much going on around this time man lmao. It was incredible. Feels dope even discussing it.

Nobody has came out with anything this strong since then. The only other recent album that did this same thing was MBDTF. Which came out like, 2 years prior. Something like a moment in time. For everybody.

I want a lot of artists to achieve this, but I'm genuinely taking out any bias and looking at this objectively. Who really has what it takes to ascend to this level? It's been 5 d--- years. It's time.

This snippet is amazing. I truly believe it will be better than Pinata. It would be a tremendous achievement for Freddie.

Earl still hasn't quite gotten out of his box. He is capable of MUCH more. He finally realized this so this next album might really open the eyes. Never seen him locked in this long. To me, he has the MOST potential atm along with Isaiah. They seem to know what they want to do and they have the buzz and anticipation behind them. All eyes on em.

Vinny Stape had a great album with Summertime 06. Big Fish was good too. Not classic level. Vince's issue is him not mastering his unique style yet. Once he does that, it's over. He definitely has time to though. I think he'll have the biggest payoff since his s--- would be so different. "Kendrick didn't blow until he was 26 (gkmc) so I got time." - Vince
