In 2018, someone in hip-hop HAS to drop a classic album. It's time.

I was having a discussion with someone who brought up this same point. I do think the game is changing to a point where the internet can have a certain effect on an albums reception, but I still think that there could be another classic in this day and age. That's always a possibility even if it's slim af. I remember before GKMC came out people were saying this. Granted the internet wasn't as cluttered, but still. I think you could literally type in anywhere "good kid maad city" and just see the word classic next to it. By almost everybody. Even the people in this thread never disagreed. I think it has the stamp. Of course people will have different opinions, but that doesn't really change what it is or what it did. I hear people saying illmatic was trash or Ready To Die was trash. People will have opinions, but the music really does always speak for itself. My worry is more so on the future.

I noticed that I see a lot less people with the potential capable of dropping a classic album with the newer rappers. I think that has to do with this fast food era we're living in. People make music to consume quickly. Not many are trying to really be goats anymore. Like, the very idea of a classic is being forgotten. Some don't even know what one really is.

I made this topic really for hope tbh. We need someone to drop a genuine classic to reignite that passion and drive for everybody. Something to change the game.

NOT only that, it's just an exciting a--- time to be in lol. Everything is lit. AF.
I do know it's slim, but 2k18 is my gamble lol. Just have a felling it'll be next year.

Not saying we have no real a--- rappers or "ahh all new music is trash" because, as you can see in this thread, Im hip on almost everybody lol. Unreleased and all. They just haven't reached their potential. ONE of them will in 18' though.

Well, I just already gave up on that classic s---. I mean, if I really like an album and listen to it without skipping any track it's a classic for me and I don't really care too much if others like it or not at this point. Definitely agree with ur point on how ppl make music to consume quickly. Most of those new era artists sound very similar, they just sayin s--- on some good banging beats but I don't ever really catch anything special on content or lyrics. But on the other hand, we still have handful of rappers who does some unique s--- with good contents etc. Kendrick is definitely one of favs and his next album will probably a classic in my opinion. But we'll see.

Btw, even though there are no ppl sayin GKMC is not a classic, I remember few people here bashing it and sayin' it wasn't good s--- like that few years ago. Maybe they are not in this thread or maybe they changed their opinions. I don't know. GKMC is a classic definitely..

I'm close to doing that myself. I mean, I do that now, but I always want somebody (especially if it's a n----- I heavily listen to) to come out with something all the way next level and game changing. Probably the most exciting s--- to be apart of. You know what I'm talking about lol.

But yeah, I don't want to be that n----- that hate everything so I give everybody a chance. I'm just not seeing a lot of the real anymore though. The s--- slap, but that's really it. (mainstream not underground.)

All in all, if next year don't come through, I might just take a break from the rap scene for a minute. Still listening to the rap I like faithfully, but not really being involved in everything else as much. Not intentionally either. Just at that point, s--- would just be a little disappointing and stale. I'll still keep up with the n----s I listen to though. Or any new dope dope artists.

I'm not gonna let some dweeb on an Internet forum tell me GKMC is not a classic hip hop album lol.

People who actually know what they're talking about know it is across the board.

Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth is a classic.
    JAY Z 4:44 will be a classic.
TUT's Preacher's Son is one of the best mixtapes to come out in years. It is a classic.
Smoke DZA & Pete Rock 'Don't Smoke Rock' will be a classic.
ASAP Rocky's A.L.L.A could be argued as a classic too.
