you're mischaracterizing what i said. it wasn't "yeah the album is really good but i like it less on principle because it outsourced writing/song concepts." that was never my position. what i said was that i am sort of lukewarm on the album because it sounds so stitched together from whichever other sounds are working at radio right now. it's not about principle it's how the music actually works, or doesn't, for me.
i can't think two albums sound too pandering? i can only pick one per year? what's my quota charles

Bruh, you like Taylor Swift. Idk why you can't assess Cardi's music as charitably as you do her's or any comparable pop musician. Not to mention anybody who pays attention to Cardi can tell how organically her personality fits with her music. She isn't Drake appropriating patois cause he went to a neighborhood or gun bars because he hung around a battle rapper. She's a stripper making stripper songs and a Hispanic American making Latin Fusion and stuff. And h---, at least she can discern what's popular atm. Half of Nicki's album sounds six months late.

It's more about attributing Cardi's album to "label notes" when Nicki's album is a great counter example of that corporate catering manifesting itself through artist autonomy.

i would say i am similarly charitable to the two of them. cardi's album is fine! it's not great. it's a lot better than the last taylor swift album –– which, similarly, sounds like a heap of "sounds that work" mashed together, but more offensive because she'd jam two or three into a single song.

and why are you spending all this time braying about how cardi's album is better than nicki's and i'm an idiot for not agreeing? i do agree
