Oct 3, 2017 It's probably not "right" to think of that immediately, but I think most of us do. When I heard about the Vegas news I thought it was a Muslim at first. When you hear about a police shooting you usually think it's a white cop/black unarmed suspect before getting the facts. If there was a serial killer I would assume they were white People will always have preconceived assumptions when bad s--- happens. I think it's only really "wrong" when you have people talking s--- about a whole race/religion/political party....before getting the facts like this:
Oct 3, 2017 well the status of religion in the middle east is much stronger than the status of religion in the western world we have tons of own radical thinkers but usually they're more or less politically radical
Oct 3, 2017 look, there is something known as "Jihad" and there is "Popularize Islam" and these people confuse the two. Jihad is dying for Islam in a war or whatever if islam is being threatened. these people get it confused with "k--- everyone who doesnt follow islam" to "popularize islam" our prophet said that we should try to introduce islam to others but only for their own good, because we believe that the things we follow will lead to a better fate after we die. For example, if i have a friend who is a christian but i want them to have a better fate, ill introduce him to islam. these diretions have been manipulated by some who claim that they are more educated about islam than others - bin laden, al baghdadi... these people form groups: al qaeda, isis... and start gaining attention by committing terrorist attacks, using this attention, they communicate their extremist beliefs with others and lure them into thinking this is the way to heaven. so they keep growing, commiting terrorist attacks, lure more people into joining them... its a viscous cycle. in case u didnt know these isis members are really really really well payed
Oct 3, 2017 Per Las Vegas state law the legal definition of terrorism https://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-202.html#NRS202Sec4415 1. “Act of terrorism” means any act that involves the use or attempted use of sabotage, coercion or violence which is intended to: (a) Cause great bodily harm or death to the general population; or Cause substantial destruction, contamination or impairment of: (1) Any building or infrastructure, communications, transportation, utilities or services; or (2) Any natural resource or the environment. Under this definition what that dude did was an act of domestic terrorism. That said I don't care for semantic arguments. Terrorist vs mass shooter? Who cares. Both are terrible people.
Oct 3, 2017 completely irrelevant. We aren't talking about whether islam is violent or not. How the f--- did you get that from the OP? No it's not terrorism it's collateral damage because for the millionth time "TERRORISM" IS NOT AD ADJECTIVE DESCRIBING A CRIME IT IS A TYPE OF CRIME ITSELF. THAT DOESN'T MEAN "COLLATERAL DAMAGE" ISN'T AS BAD AS "TERRORISM" THOUGH, IT IS JUST AS BAD AND IS THE CAUSE OF TERRORIST ATTACKS, BUT IT IS A DIFFERENT CLASS OF CRIME, IT'S NOT MORALLY MORE ACCEPTABLE THAN TERRORISM Yes both are terrible people no one said any different :s. Did you even read the OP It's like people automatically shut their ears and eyes and start shouting and stomping because they don't want to listen
Oct 3, 2017 What I'm saying is you're wrong to assume it wrong to assume that a terrorist attack has been committed by someone who is Muslim for 2 reasons. The 1st being your definition of a terrorist attack is flawed which is compromising your judgment. You stated that this is in response to the Vegas shooting so I'll speak specifically to that event. You stated that terrorist attacks usually have a motivation based on religious/ideology which is correct. This is true but you might be conflating the two concepts. Someone like a Dylan Roof would be considered a terrorist by this definition. He committed his acts of violence based on an ideological belief. It may not have religious undertones but he surely committed those acts based on ideology. This is going to tie into my second point but to speak on the Las Vegas incident you're wrong for 2 reasons. 1 being you don't know the motives for the attack but you assume based on race and class that he has no ideological reason for committing the mass murder of 59 innocent civilians. Not those motives might not be based on religious doctrine or whatever but there's certainly the great possibility that it was committed because of some radical ideological belief. The second reason is based on Las Vegas legal statue this was an act of terrorism. So your just flat out wrong in your assumption. Now assuming you're from America you're wrong for the simple fact that terrorist attacks committed by an Islamic extremist aren't as big of a problem as terrorist attacks committed by a right-wing extremist. You stated when has a terrorist attack in the west not been committed by a Muslim; well in America, that's often. (I'm assuming by west you mean America and not Europe. The point I'm going to make pertains to America not the world as a whole. I don't know much about Europe in regard to this issue.) If a terrorist attack has been committed in America it's most likely been committed by a right-wing extremist. This is something that has been known by the US for close to a decade now. The DHS has commissioned reports on the threat that right-wing extremism poses to the US; going as far as to state right-wing extremism poses a greater threat to the US than radical Islamic terrorism. This is supported by the numbers. Domestic terrorist plots perpetrated by Islamic terrorist are prevented at a higher rate and involved fatalities at a lower rate. The overall instances of Islamic based terrorism in the US are also committed at a lower rate. So just to sum this up, to assume that a terrorist attack committed on US soil has been committed by a Muslim and that white people don't typically commit acts of terrorism because they aren't motivated by ideology/theology is wrong because legal statues prove you wrong in some instances, terrorist acts committed by right-wing extremist are far more likely than that committed by Islamic extremist, and mass shootings like these are committed more likely to be committed by a white male than a radical Islamic terrorist. So actually you are wrong because you have an incomplete understanding of what terrorism is and how it's defined as a local/state/federal level and you're allowing biases to influence how you perceive those who commit terrorist acts in America. I say all of this to finish with I don't believe you should assume anything when it comes to attacks such as the one committed in Las Vegas. Assuming leaves you vulnerable to conformational bias and consuming false information. You should acquire the facts before you come to any conclusion. You should definitely look to avoid demonizing or stereotyping a demographic based on the actions of a few. This is especially important in this modern ideologically war we're fighting with groups like Isis. We can't allow their propaganda to succeed by demonizing a group of a billion people. It only strengthens their cause.
Oct 3, 2017 holy f---ing s--- man i can't believe these are real, live human beings, that supposedly have a brain
Oct 3, 2017 the las vegas shooting is an act of terrorism. it's not organized terrorism, but it's terrorism.
Oct 3, 2017 i dont get why we need labels for this s--- just call them f---in horrific and try to prevent future events that are similar its fucin stupid lets argue about a f---in label instead of fixing anything
Oct 3, 2017 BUT WHITE PPL DO BAD THINGS TO BEN, WHY DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HIM BEING CALLED A TERRORIST HUHHH EXACTLY YOU RACIST
Oct 3, 2017 Definition of terrorism should be made more broad tbh. Or at least broken down into different types. People who go on mass killing sprees are causing terror therefore are terrorists. At least that’s how I see it.
Oct 3, 2017 but fr think about it ppl feel weird calling anyone else a terrorist if they aint the right religion or shade ppl have huuge f---in debates about this simple word its weird
Oct 3, 2017 And to answer the actual question, basically what @Worm said. In our lifetime, the most prominent terrorist groups have been muslim extremists. I guess it's "wrong" to assume off the bat, but I 100% understand why people assume it because the image of a terrorist the media has pumped into us is the image of a muslim extremist. I'd be lying if I said ISIS/Al Queda wasn't what came to mind when someone said the word "terrorist," but all we can do is to try to shift that stereotype in the USA, because the vast majority of domestic terrorists are white.
