Oct 22, 2017 I’m talking popularity wise. Future took the sub-genre and pushed it to a wider audience. Pre 2011, trap music was not what it is today. Atlanta was not the center-piece of hip-hop like it is now. A lot of that has to do with Future & his sound & a couple years later — Migos. Gangsta rap had already been a core center of hip-hop since the 80’s. It was popularized & played on the radio/in clubs throughout the 80’s & 90’s. 50 Cent did nothing to push it to a wider audience because it was already huge. Dude, if you have songs topping the R&B/Hip-Hop chats at 10 & 4; and you have them being certified gold & platinum — that’s buzz lol. His popularity may have been focused more regionally in the south but again, that’s because trap as a sub-genre wasn’t as popular when Future first came out. I disagree whole heartedly. Idk how you could view Evol better than HNDRXX and Pluto when Future is just on auto-pilot for most of EVOL. Even Future which I thought was pretty good had some songs where he was just on auto-pilot. HNDRXX & Pluto are so much more polished & different. Also, like I said before, it doesn’t make sense to hold albums to more importance the mixtapes. Are you telling me if Lil Wayne called his drought mixtapes albums, you’d hold him to a higher regard? It’s just a title. Both are projects.
Oct 22, 2017 Yes him and thug both are, very few rappers have had a streak like them or have the same influence. Look at any rapper now days, u see bit of thug/future in them all.
Oct 22, 2017 lol look at the people who liked this. yall listen to eminem still in 2017 don't even talk to me
Oct 22, 2017 and this other dude talking about Migos having more buzz than Future in 2011? lol why make it so apparent that you have no idea what you're talking about. man i hate this forum some of you are so f---ing moronic it's appalling/
Oct 22, 2017 You keep saying this but like i’ve said multiple times now, Future had songs on the top 100 before 2015. He had songs that were going gold & platinum before 2015. He wasn’t some unknown trap artist pre 2015 like you’re suggesting. Also, I was referring to the popularity of trap, not the sound. Future put the sub-genre in more of a spotlight.
Oct 22, 2017 stop arguing with them lol they think eminem is the greatest rapper oat and that "mumble rap" is a real thing
Oct 22, 2017 Future fathered so many rappers that have came out in the past few years like it or not with the release of Pluto
Oct 22, 2017 future = writes his own rhymes on every album drake = had a team of ghostwriters on more life what a time to be alive = futurre wrote drake's lines Drake getting a team of ghostwriters every album is consistently great but nothing about it is thoroughly impressive
Oct 22, 2017 I have no reason to argue about this. You might be right. But he hired the right ghost writer's if that's the case. I mean if we were to use "writing your own stuff" as a strict requirement then what would we say about Kanye?
Oct 22, 2017 well there's a difference, Kanye didn't deceptively have ghostwriters every album as if he were some well known rapper. he was always known for his producing and since his first raps it was always suspected he had ghostwriters. Drake on the other hand never explicitly mentioned his use of ghostwriters and since the start of his career was known as a singer/rapper that made heartfelt songs about relationships and stuff like that. His content being ghostwritten greatly decreases the value because it no longer seems like he's reflecting on his life/past/relationships and is actually just reading off a script. You could probably say the same for some Kanye songs, but most of his catalog isn't some deep reflective personal s--- like almost all of Drake's music
Oct 22, 2017 I think he'd be a certain starter for top 25. Ten i think needs time. I think once a few recent projects settle and some more great ones come out it'll be more definitive him being in there
