no youre just misunderstanding art that is open to interpretation as a "loss of clarity"

I don't think it's narrow minded to suggest that there's a correlation between stylistic liberties in a lyrics-based art form leading to decrease in clarity behind meaning. And it's not like I'm 1) stating this as fact or 2) saying that this is the case 100% of the time

I actually say this in OP

"Maybe it's a good thing, it shows people are trying to move the genre farther and in new directions. "

    Lol

Because moving forward musically into uncharted territory and sound doesn't inherently correlate to sustained or increased meaning or clarity within the context of said music. It's just a discussion, some of you disagree with that. I didn't even present my opinion as fact or suggest I believe the idea to be true 100% of the time

The OP said that the abstract approach to rap music is having a negative impact overall. It seemed like you were speaking for the whole genre. If the thread was called are rap songs becoming too complex etcetera and you specifically articulated that only certain songs lose meaning then it would make more sense with what you're saying

I would love to know where I commented on moving forward not meaning to progress? What the f--- are you even talking about?

Did you just need something to say so you posted a definition?

There's a big difference between "lack of clarity behind meaning" and "lack of meaning".

Lack of clarity implies that the meaning of songs is as present as ever while the whole premise of this thread is the opposite.

Yea but everything else in this thread including the title implies that this apparent newfound complexity is somehow negative towards the music

Perhaps that's where he conflict stems. It may seem more negatively because I'm not meaning to say that an artists music means nothing or isn't necessarily aimed to mean something, simply that due to increasing artistic liberties I sometimes feel there is less clarity in what the artist is trying to convey.

Btw i dont think either style of writing is better or worse. Simpe straight forward writing can be really interesting. But there's also great enjoyment in not having the message shoved in ur face and just picking up subtle connotations in the music.

When I tried to explain to you that a lost meaning and an unclear meaning aren't the same thing you were too busy telling me my definition of lost was wrong

i can only speak for my experience with him so far.. he denies any sort of reply i made by focussing on a word, and most importantly not / misunderstanding it.

I said the definition of losing to explain that the inability to understand something isnt the same as the something not being there. I thought that would dumb it down and make what I was saying easy to grasp
