Jan 19, 2016 i feel like a disappointing debut kinda constitutes a bad debut, he had so much buzz and hype after being away then coming back and dropping home & oldie, then this thing just kinda slumped out and left a bad taste in peoples mouthes. I get that he wasn't into the older style that he did when he was an edgy teen anymore and he matured and whatever, but even the songs where he tried to emulate that (whoa for example) just felt like him appeasing his old fans as to try and keep their attention and ease them into his new style. granted it was a great set up for IDLS and the songs between doris and IDLS, and i love the current stuff he's putting out, and doris was a necessary step in the misanthropic "who gives a s---" direction he's heading in now but i think if people look back at your debut and call it disappointing it's a bad debut. but like you said not a bad album, i just think that it needs to be taken out of the context of being "earl sweatshirts debut".
