    @WPG
    Lmao

But you did a great job on this review. Honestly, I would probably give it a 7. I think this is a step in the right direction for Cole, but he still hasn't figured it all out yet. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Hopefully he grows when he releases that project with Kendrick.

Everybody Dies was cool, but both are pretty forgettable for me.

I'm not caught up on this thread, so if it has already been said I apologize, but Deja Vu is dreams part 3. It goes Dreams, Power Tripp, Deja Vu.

Cole is easily going to outsell FHD.

d---. I don't think this album will allow Cole to take a break like fhd did. Fhd at least had full support from the people. 4yeo is polarizing amongst public, and it's getting worse critic reviews than fhd.

"That said, a dutiful focus on the album’s central storyline means there aren’t big swings or long tangents in any direction, and aside from that trio of great tracks, Cole seldom sounds like he’s leaving it all out on the field."

that's my issue with this album right there.

he played it safe with this album sticking to a blueprint. i think he took bigger risks on FHD.

okay awesome review @WPG u did a great job with this one. just finished reading, i agree with all of it.

you should have worked in the lack of replay value though, by sticking to the narrative, there isn't much to come back for when you've taken in the story. because this album doesn't really have too many "songs" per se, they just all blend together leading up to the finale (which was actually really good).

you mentioned ville mentality is like an interlude, and then so is she's mine pt 1 and 2. that's 3 interludes on a 10 track album, and then the intro too.

i think it's cole's best effort to date, but he has a long way to go still as an artist.

Ville mentality and she's mine pt 1 back to back is an odd decision imo. I know it's a big point in the narrative but that s--- completely destroys the pace of the album. Both of those are stretched out interludes. One thing in that pitchfork review tho is I think this is the best production on a Cole album by a mile. Very few samples and a lot of live instrumentation.

that i have to disagree with completely ...

how can you say he played it safe and stuck to a blueprint with all those unconventional and singing tracks like she's mine, villas mentality, for whom the bell tolls, folding clothes?

and how can you say he didn't leave it all on the field with tracks like change and 4 your eyes only where he absolutely puts leaves his heart on the songs ?

because the singing isn't a risk. it was on FHD when he started relying on his voice more. yes he took it 2 steps further this time, but the risk was taken by him 2 years ago to incorporate his singing voice more.

further, there is no risk on this record as it follows a blueprint set by previously acclaimed albums by vince staples and kendrick lamar.

this is a good record by cole (and his best to date), but this isn't him stepping out of the box.

I'm still not sure its his best album cause i still haven't went back to FHD yet but its growing on me more and more ...

and I'm still not sure if its better than tpab or gkmc but one thing u can say for sure is it sticks to the narrative even more than those albums ....

the concept on tab is less like a story so i don't even really have to argue that one, but even gkmc which is considered the greatest story concept rap album in recent memory ...

this you could argue sticks to the narrative better than that, and as @Mike Tyson mentioned earlier....without even one skit which is pretty impressive
