Broooooo that’s the biggest takeaway I took from the doc! His self awareness to finally not have regret when he’s done and branch out. Literally what we have been SCREAMING for for years on this forum!

This all reminds me of what he talked about around KOD about why he created k--- Edward. Something to the effect of, he thought “J Cole” had kind of run its course and was boxing him in.

Fast forward and that’s the decision he’s talking about now. Do I get comfortable and phone it in? Keep making the same music that we know he can make in his sleep? Or push yourself creatively in new directions and see how far you can really take it?

Were lucky he’s going to the latter.

lmao god that would be the ultimate troll.

Point is, this is going to FEEL like a Cole album but probably not going to sound like one. If that makes sense

Been binging Cole interviews all day and this Angie interview was so fire, so cool after watching the off-season doc to see where this one was time-stamped in the “fall off” timeline he drops a subtle hint at 1:28:30 on how he’s “climbing back” into his Rhythm so looks like post rolling loud Miami was when he was really locked in. Almost exactly 3 years ago

I’ve got a theory about why Interlude was the single and why I think it’ll be the intro on the album.

Everything about The Off-season is an interlude. It’s an interlude before the The Fall Off. It’s an interlude or bridge between his old creative identity and his new creative identity. And finally, everything we know about the songs on the album match with how he’s used interludes on past albums. We know that the whole idea of this album is to push his craft and creativity to the highest level through putting in the work. Sharpening various songwriting techniques. His albums interludes could best be described as elemental parts of his craft.

Mo Money - a track entirely based on a rhyme scheme
Ain’t That Some s--- - this is about flow and cadence
Everybody Dies - battle rap, bars
Once an Addict - story telling
    i n t e r l u d e - harmonies and emotion

These are all the elements that make Cole. That’s why I think it’s an album of interludes. There’s going to be hard tracks, concept tracks, story telling tracks, melodic tracks. Everything. Taken to the highest level he can.

One of his best live songs. The Big Pimpin part is a nice touch. Classic

I get what you mean but I feel Cole on his own production sounds way too 'perfect', like I think that's why he sounds better when he's featured- those beats challenge him a bit

In terms of creativity I don't think anyone can beat Kendrick. Cole usually takes other influences and puts his own spin on it. It's gonna be interesting to see him in his creative bag but I think he's best when he's just spitting facts over crazy hype beats.
