Jun 26, 2017 Look... I'm not saying Budden never made good music. All I'm saying is Budden did everything he had to do to became a huge superstar and didn't. He even invented trolling on twitter to catch heat with his mousetrap account... Basically what Trump did to become President. Budden was a marketing genius... He just maketed himself to the wrong people... He didn't grab Lil Wayne's fans before Wayne did. That's why Wayne is a pop culture icon with huge top of the charts hits and most of Budden's biggest fans only know him from his vh1 reality show and couldn't name 3 of his songs. Of course there are fans like you that know all of his songs... But that doesn't pay his bills.
Jun 26, 2017 Well I'm obvs not arguing for his success, I'm just saying that in terms of quality, he had one of the strongest runs in hip hop. I really don't think he was ever the type to be a huge superstar, he made like two songs that were hit material and p much everything else was therapeutic music for him.

Jun 26, 2017 It's exactly how I say it is... Joe Budden is Stanley Kowalski. He just missed everything.... If "pump it up" came out in 2007 instead of 2003 he would have had $50million in ringtone money. Joebudden.tv didn't blow up like he thought it would of... Or probably would have if he was a more likeable character. Instead of pretending to be single all the time like music management wants their artist to do to attract female fans to get the club jumping and move units... Joe would make stars out of his girlfriends... Then he would beat them up and break up with them and become a high profile bad guy. His most critically acclaim years were the late 00's... Post CD... When iTunes was getting their a--- beat by torrents and other pirateware... Pre streaming... The worst time to make money in the music industry... Especially since 100% of his audience were internet savvy nerds who never paid a penny for his music and weren't likely to go to his shows. He was the king of the battle rappers... 10 years after people cared about battle rapping. He got in on Shady/Aftermath's supergroup, well after Shady/Aftermath peaked. Now he is on (or was on) an embarrassing Real Housewives knock off show at a time when reality TV stars are a dime a dozen and no one gives a s--- about them. He has bad timing and he missed his shot at immortality many times. He is bitter... He doesn't like the sound of new rap... He doesn't think it's cool rappers are respected for drinking cough syrup and slurring their bars when he used to smoke Angel Dust and annunciate.

At least he listens to other types of music and can show appreciation for certain artists from the "new school" - The same "new school" generation that calls everything trash that isn't on the exact same vibe bpm wave as whatever's trending. Respect is earned most of the time.

Jun 27, 2017 He can like whoever. I'm just saying he has a surperority complex. He says he likes newer generation artists but I think he mainly says that to avoid the "old man joe" label. I would love to see joe come out and admit that Young Thug is a better rapper than Crooked I but it won't ever happen. Why? Because joe looks down on artists from this generation. His explaination would be something along the lines of "crooked I can rhyme much better..." essentially an argument you would see in a YouTube comment. It wouldn't be word for word that, joe can articulate himself pretty well but that's essentially what the basis of his argument would be. Anthony Fantano does the same s---. He won't ever outright say "mumble rap is garbage. It's music for stupid people" but a lot of the times those are the bases of his arguments.
Jun 27, 2017 What I'm saying is why don't those people who think Young thug is a better "rapper" than Crooked I have a superiority complex to you too? One could argue that none of them would admit that Crook is better because they don't wanna seem "old". Plus why would Joe say that if he doesn't believe it to be true? I don't think it's true either - Crook is definitely better at rapping. Also the people you keep naming are Joe's friends and close associates, he's never going to s--- on them in defence of anyone else. Look, Crook and Thug are two of my faves but for different reasons. Crook raps better, he makes me think, I love listening to his supreme lyrical skill. Thugger's melodies, cadence and energy are unmatched, he adapts to any beat and he's a genius at it imo. It doesn't have to be a war.
