use video game series is moving forward, with Aquaman actor Jason Momoa cast as the movie's main protagonist, Rico Rodriguez.

Additionally, Deadline reports that San Andreas director Brad Peyton will helm and produce the film. This won't be the first time Peyton and Momoa have worked together, as Momoa also stars in Peyton's Netflix series Frontier.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World writer John Collee penned the screenplay, which tells the story of Agency operative Rico Rodriguez(Momoa). Plot specifics have yet to be revealed, but Rodriguez is said to face a "crisis of conscience" during one of his missions.

DNA Pictures will handle the film's distribution in China through a local partner, while 20th Century Fox has the worldwide distribution rights.

Just Cause will be produced by Peyton and Jeff Fierson via their ASAP Entertainment company, Roy Lee and Vertigo Entertainment, Adrian Askarieh via his Prime Universe Films, Eva Cao through Supernova Entertainment, and Mason XU and Fan Dong via DNA Co. Ltd.

Momoa is set to star as Aquaman in the upcoming DC ensemble film Justice League, as well as his own standalone feature. Meanwhile, Peyton is gearing up for production on New Line Cinema's Rampage, another video game movie adaptation, which stars Dwayne Johnson.
