Apr 24, 2016 And that's coming from someone who doesn't worship his pre hiatus material and thinks it isn't that great as well as admits a lot of his post hiatus stuff is really great at times. The reason why I may come off as a full fledge Stan here is largely due to the fact I'm not a fan of rap at all horrible horrible genre. All that being said Eminem is still a great artist with great accomplishments inside and outside of rap.
Apr 24, 2016 agreed, Em is easily top 3 if not number 1 considering Pac and Big are dead so who know if they would have fell off or not. All of Em albums are classics aside from Encore and some people even consider Encore a classic
Apr 25, 2016 I think he's a legend. I mean, he's not in my top lists, because of his overall career, and the fact that he's been bad longer than he was great. But, in saying that, he had a gigantic impact on the genre, he brought tons of new fans in, and his prime might've been one of the best I've ever seen. Prime Eminem is definitely in my top 10-15 ever. Whether it was his albums, features, collaborations, etc. The spotlight was on him and he normally delivered. It was pretty crazy that he was able to do that consistently. SSLP was one of the best listening experiences I've had. Such a great, unpredictable and creative album.
Apr 25, 2016 Well in a world where rap is more popular and diverse than ever, the newbies to rap will likely be focused on the more popular rappers. Since Eminem left enough of an impact through his early discography his name still gets thrown around a lot, so people research him. Through this research it's likely they will find his more recent songs where he's got the new choppy flow, leading to that being their main opinion and no further. Makes sense that he should get bashed for his later work, but I imagine too many of the 'newbies' to rap wouldn't research his discog a whole lot.
Apr 25, 2016 I don't enjoy his albums (earlier ones) as much as I used to. But some particular songs are still amazing to me. Prime Marshall will always be great to me no matter how much mediocrity came after it. He killed every featute he was on as well
Apr 25, 2016 I keep seeing people say this, and I disagree to an extent. Granted, I don't FEEL the rage that he had, as much as when I was a teenager, but his first album is pure brilliance. Just the conceptual writing. He had some very original concepts and story telling songs on that first album that were never used by a rapper. Also, not only that, but he used humor with it, which really only Redman did on a consistent basis. Songs like Guilty Conscience, 97 Bonnie and Clyde, Brain Damage, My Fault, As The World Turns, Our House, Kim, Stan, The Kids, etc... These songs are so innovative and different, I don't see how people today cannot appreciate them. Then again, his novelty wore off, and the humor aspect of his music became extremely over done and corny, so I can kind of understand how these songs might get a bad wrap, or lack the punch that they used to have. And it's so weird, because unlike Nas, who I feel puts a ton of effort into his projects, I really never felt Eminem put a ton of effort into those songs (even though I'm sure he did). I swear, his conceptual songs back then seemed natural and they just flowed easily.
Apr 25, 2016 I don't think many people understand the progression of his music, or how different it was when it was first released. His first two albums were so different from everything that was coming out at the time. Now, it's hard to explain to new fans how innovative it really was. Even fans who became fans when The Eminem Show dropped don't understand. Listening to Eminem's first two albums as they came out was so fun, because you legit had no idea what he was going to say from song to song, or what type of concept he'd make. That's why I have so much respect for the guy, even though he's struggled since 04. Back in 2002, I NEVER thought that THIS would be Eminem, it's pretty sad to me.
Apr 25, 2016 Prime Eminem is my favorite rapper for sure. I don't really care what anyone has to say. Although I dont listen to him very much anymore, when I hear certain old em songs I still get my mind blown to this day. I think im gonna go give MMLP a listen.. or listen to some old features/freestyles.. R.i.p Marshall. I personally liked most parts of recovery and the good parts of relapse, but I think classic Em died when proof died as cliche as it sounds.
Apr 25, 2016 I find my self listening to Relapse (incredible album to me) and some of the songs from Recovery/MMLP2 a lot more than his old stuff, I need to go back to these old albums some day
