    Wreckless - Born to Boomer

Excellent mix tape. I recognized a lot of artists but wasn't familiar with most of these songs. Very good effort finding lesser known songs from this period. I liked how you kept to a hard rock theme. Hard rock isn't my favourite type of music , with a few exceptions, mainly because the vocals are often generic without any distinctiveness. But this did a great job keeping my interest. There were a few songs I wasn't a fan of including Christian women and the paradise lost songs, other than that this was a near perfect tape.

    Wreckless - Born to Boomer

    Aight lets gooo

Princess of the Night - g.d. what an opening. This is exactly the type of rock music I like. It's energetic, great vocals (no screaming), and obviously a fantasic piece of music. 10/10

Black Dog - I know this song. Another fantastic one, Robert has such a great voice. Yeah can't give anything less than a 10/10 again.

Empire - bro did u just see my exact taste in rock music when u made this?? 10/10

Christian Woman - almost feels like I'm being negative here but I just like this one a little less than the others so far. I guess the (low) voice doesn't really click with me. 8/10

Albatross - another b-----r! It doesn't have the same effect on me as the first 3 tracks though. 8,5/10

Everything Zen - the british accent is not exactly my thing, but it's a great song nontheless. 8/10

Get Back - nice to hear a womans voice on here! Never heard of this band, she's really good. Nice song. 8.5/10

Louie Louie - yeah this one I know, and already liked a lot. Great pick, Motörhead is dope. 9/10

True Belief - yeah these kind of vocals are not really my thing. Which isn't in any way criticism, just personal. Instrumental is dope as f--- though. 7.5/10

Doctor Doctor - this is so catchy. Never heard of UFO and this song, another nice surprise. 9/10

Whatever that Hurts - same as True Belief, the vocals are not exactly my thing. But that intro was so dope man! 8/10

Black Lodge - I dunno why but it reminds me a little of Alice in Chains. In a good way though, I like it. 8/10

Say Just Words - yeah this is my s--- again. A little more 'upbeat' for lack of a better word. The instrumental during the chorus is so catchy. 10/10

No Prayer for the Dying - glad this album ends the level it started, this song I know and it's perfect. 10/10

Dirty Boots - coming after IM is kind of a bummer lol. It's nice though. 8/10

New Dawn Fades - it's a little too 'slow' for my taste, but it's good. Solid ending to a solid tape! 7/10

This was so much fun! I added 8 songs to my personal playlist, so lots of new s--- for me. Which is kinda the main goal of this club.

    Average score; 8.8/10

@DKC mentioned earlier that (obviously) S80 is mostly a rap forum, but this past year in this group I heard more new -non rap- songs than all the years on SL/S80 combined!

Thanks Wreckless, setting the bar high for all of us! @AOTWClub

Thanks for the review / track by track breakdown!

The opener was one of my first picks. Kind of surprising it didn’t turn into some big mainstream boomer hit since it’s so catchy lol

This tape is getting way more love than I expected.

I think your Black Lodge / Alice in Chains reference is spot on xd. They really do sound very similar.

Coming up with a theme was a bit harder this time around. I took Allis’ criticism to heart and tried to find some artists maybe that maybe aren’t as well known. I’m not sure that I really succeeded in that regard. Truthfully, my music taste is quite basic, but I think the songs themselves aren’t too well known (aside from one or two exceptions). I tried to come up with a loose theme, so I guess just think of this record as a Frankenstein’s monster of a playlist that’s partly romantic/depressed/horny/whatever else you can think of. Without further ado, I present to you…

    When The Blood Burns...

    1. Silver Morning (1983) - Brian Eno
    2. La Grasa de las Capitales (1979) - Seru Giran
    3. Fun House (1970) - The Stooges
    4. Waves of Fear (1982) - Lou Reed
    5. El borrego (1994) - Cafe Tacvba
    6. Sueles Dejarme Solo (1990) - Soda Stereo
    7. Группа крови [aka “Gruppa Krovi” or “Blood Type”] (1988) - Kino
    8. Tell Me When You Need It Again, Pts. 1 & 2 (1977) - The Isley Brothers
    9. A Tear for Eddie (1994) - Ween
    10. Eternal Life (1994) - Jeff Buckley
    11. Yolanda (1974) - Bobby “Blue” Bland
    12. Babylon (1996) - OutKast
    13. Debra (1999) - Beck
    14. Turn You Inside-Out (1988) - R.E.M.
    15. Torn Curtain (1977) - Television
    16. The Voice of Love (1992) - Angelo Badalamenti
“Technically” I didn’t reuse any artists from my last tape (I say “technically” because Lou Reed sang on Heroin which is a VU song, so idk if that counts) and I tried to go for something more upbeat. This time around I used a couple non-English tracks and some instrumentals (none over 5 minutes so don't worry), so I hope y’all don’t mind. Some of these picks might not be too surprising if you’ve kept up with the Album Log thread, but I digress. I tried to make it semi-diverse, so I hope that y'all make some new discoveries you enjoy.

    Born To Boomer

As expected I enjoyed this quite a bit!

Princess Of The Night was a cool opener, don't believe I've heard it before but I love the guitar solo.

Black Dog is obviously a classic, not much to say here 10/10 song

I've never heard Queensryche before but Empire was a highlight really liked the whole vibe of it

I'm familiar with the name Type O Negative but not much of the music itself, Christian Woman was cool. I didn't like some of the hyper deep voice parts but it didn't impede any enjoyment, still very solid.

Albatross was f---ing dope, probably my favorite on the playlist outside of songs I've heard before. Exactly my type of rock music and I need to check out more of this band if this is the usual.

If Black Dog is a 10/10 then Everything Is Zen is an 11/10 for me, I've adored this song for a long time now and I'm happy to see Bush pop up on at least one of these playlists.

I need to listen to more Veruca Salt cause they're a classic band and although this song is vaguely familiar the only song I have saved is obviously Seether but Get Back was great, another highlight for me for sure.

Louie Louie was enjoyable, my brother has been getting very into Motörhead lately so it was good timing. Always enjoyed people making the instrument of their choice sound uniquely them and Lemmy has that on spades with his bass

I wasn't the biggest fan of True Belief but it's still a good song, I think it's a mood thing for me. I can see myself really liking this like 2 weeks from now lmao.

Doctor Doctor was a good reprieve into some very classic rock sounds, very enjoyable. Great stuff.

The vocal delivery on the Tiamat track is a little too theatrical for my taste but I adore the instrumentation, very talented even if they didn't hit exactly to my taste.

Black Lodge was dope, delivery was very Chris Cornell esque which I love.

Say Just Words was very fun, some 80s movie training montage type s---.

No Prayer For The Dying is when the theatrics of older rock/metal works for me, I can see your affinity to Iron Maiden they're great.

Dirty Boots is another thing that hit the sweet spot of my current mood musically, it went through a good evolution sonically whole keeping it's identity for the whole track. Really liked this one

I need to actually buckle down and listen to this Joy Division album, it was very moody and well put together. Solid choice for a closer although it's another mood listen where even though I liked it I can see myself loving it in the future!

Overall super super solid tape, I'm happy to have these eras of rock represented cause even if it wasn't in these corners of specific bands I grew up on this era of music so I'm always happy to listen to it!

Favorite Songs: Empire, Black Dog, Albatross, Everything Zen, Get Back, Dirty Boots

I also tried to do this but halfway through I said f--- it and made a playlist of stuff that's been stuck in my head so a lot of it is well known (less for score whoring and more for personal enjoyment at least) lmao. Looking forward to giving your playlist a listen btw there's a lot of people I've been meaning to check out more of in here

Quick review because I don't have much time this week.

I heard maybe a third of these before. I'm a big REM and Television fan, I was initially planning on putting some of their songs on my tape but I knew someone would beat me to it
    :503:

The songs I never heard before were mostly amazing. My one issue is a me problem; I don't usually enjoy songs with non-english singing. My favourite part of music is vocals and lyrics, so not understanding them makes it less enjoyable (except when it's Carti or Thugger). Overall, excellent tape and I added a few new songs to my playlists. It was structured pretty well with similar styled songs grouped together. Bonus points for trying to add lesser known songs

Exuding the foreign language songs would have been close to a 10 but I will give this a

Thanks bud, I appreciate the long review lol

Albatross is definitely their best track. You might want to check out the song Clean my Wounds or maybe their greatest hits album.

Bush is dope. I've actually discovered this band recently. Literally as I was compiling this mixtape lmao

Tiamat is a distinct vibe for sure.

And Maiden of course is my favorite band of all time. Or top 3 at least.

I will have to dock you some points for picking Mainstream artists Outcast and R.E.M.

Seriously, i'm really looking forward to hearing this mixtape lol. I've never heard of 95% of these artists.

Btw I was surprised by the comment regarding picking classics as I figured nothing besides Black Dog on my mixtape was mainstream.

Even with Motorhead, Louie Louie probably wouldn't crack their top 15.

I guess there a few mildly popular ones though like Christian Woman but for the most part I made an effort to go with relatively unknown songs.

I think we shouldn't be too self concious about it unless you're going out of your way to building your mixtape using only popular bands and songs.
