Hope everybody finds something they like on here! Beyone excited to read the reviews and talk about the songs further.

May 12, 2025 Section 70-80-90 This mixtape had a ton of songs already in my "liked" songs rotation. The only song i didn't like was the Nena one. A lot of the classic rock songs on this playlist are absolute gems. The NWA, Jay and Naughty songs are f---ing great too. I don't really have a whole novel to write as id heard most of these and love them all so I'm gonna give this mixtape a 9/10 @AOTWClub @Michael Myers
May 13, 2025 Jimmy Jazz - At the Edge of Light Favorite: Bar Italia RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 8/10 This tape is one of the most unique yet and has one of the most strongest aesthetics, so much so that I only picked 1 favorite song instead of my usual 6 because a lot of these songs feel very equally good to me except for my favorite one. The goth theme sets this tape apart from the others. The cover and title makes the tape feel mysterious. Unfortunately, the three song run from Dirty Old Town to Spellbound is what really brought down the score for me. I’m just not a fan of the vocal delivery on these songs at all, especially Free Money. Free Money was just very awkward for me to listen to, and I wanted to skip it every time. On the bright side, pretty much all the other songs were good or better. The highlight for me was Bar Italia. It’s a wonderful closing track. It definitely feels like it belongs in the end credits. To me it feels like one of those songs you play when you’re hanging with someone you really like but you know you’ll probably never see them again. It almost made me emotional thinking about certain things in my life. Overall this is a great tape I think most of the group should find enjoyment in. @AOTWClub
May 13, 2025 Wow man, thanks for listening. I’m really glad you enjoyed it! The 3 tracks you mentioned are ones I was aware of being kind of on the nose delivery-wise but just had to include them cause I grew to love them over time lmao, bit of an acquired taste for sure, especially Patti Smith with her janky-a--- accent. Really happy that you liked the aesthetic of the tape, busted my a--- making it work stylistically. Also it is sick that you enjoyed Bar Italia so much, easily one of my favorites on the tape. I struggled with making it fit in a way where it wouldn’t be too jarring. Thanks for the great review!
May 13, 2025 @AOTWClub Section 70-80-90 Review This is a strong mixtape overall. There's a solid blend of songs spanning different genres which keeps things interesting. While sticking to one genre might improve cohesion, nothing here felt out of place. The transitions between tracks were smooth and the mixtape flowed nicely. As someone else mentioned, it's tough not to repeat the same thoughts in these reviews, but this is another very solid mixtape that stands out. The title is also pretty clever. I don’t have much to comment on regarding individual tracks, most selections were enjoyable even if a few, like Cambodia didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Still, the overall variety added a lot to the listening experience. Thanks for sharing. Favorite songs: Ridin' the Storm Out, Simple Man, Otherside, Express Yourself, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Torn, You Shook Me All Night Long 8/10
May 13, 2025 Jimmy Jazz - At The Edge of Light I was super excited to hop into this tape. I was already familiar with "Last Dance" and "The Guns of Brixton", but the rest of the tracklist was completely new to me. With that being said, here is the track-by-track Vincent Craine- Works well as an intro, but I’ll admit that it’s not really my thing Last Dance- Great song, from an incredible album. I also really dug how smooth the transition was from Vincent Craine to this The Saddest Song- Hadn’t heard anything by this artist before, but I liked it from the second that it started. Satori- Pretty good instrumental track. I dig it!!! The Guns of Brixton- Same case as track 2, it’s great!!! Single K.O.- I’ve only heard Wire tracks from Pink Flag, so this was new for me. Great track once again I would Hurt A Fly- Wasn’t familiar with this artist either, but I LOVED it. Might be my favorite new discovery on here Electricity- Another great track as well. It feels very modern, like I could honestly believe that this was from the late 2000’s . Kracked- Absolute b-----r man Add It Up- From their name, I expected Violent Femmes to be a female-led band like Hole, so I was surprised to hear a male vocalist lmao. Good track though. Dirty Old Town- I remember JJ covered this record in his archive thread, so it was cool to see a track from it on here. It really isn’t my cup of tea though, unfortunately Free Money- I hadn’t really gotten in Horses that much when I last heard it but this is a dope track, and it works well on here. Spellbound- Great track once again!!! I need to check out some more Siouxsie at some point The Killing Moon- A pretty good track once again, although I don’t really have much to say. Legendary Hearts-I’m already a pretty big Lou fan, so this was pretty cool. I need to check out the album that it’s from soon. Bar Italia- I’d heard the name before, but I had never heard a single Pulp song before. I think that is a wonderful track, and an incredible closer. I need to check out Different Class in full man. Overall, I really enjoyed this tape. JJ had mentioned that he struggled with the cohesion, but honestly, I feel like the whole project flowed together seamlessly. Made some new discoveries as well, with "I Would Hurt A Fly" being a highlight. I wasn't too into "Victor Craine" or "Dirty Old Town" which brings my score down a bit, but I still think it was great overall. "Bar Italia" was especially great in my view. Big thanks to @Jimmy Jazz for the pick, and yeah. FAVORITES: The Saddest Song, I Would Hurt A Fly, Bar Italia Rating: 9/10 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau
May 13, 2025 Thanks for the great review and an incredible score man! Really happy that you dug it so much. I am also hyped to hear that you liked how the whole thing flowed, means that all the time I spent rearranging the tracklist wasn’t for nothing. Built To Spill is a really cool project by Dough Martsch, the guy is an absolute animal with the guitar. I’d recommend checking out his album Perfect From Now On when you have the time. It is such a cool collection of songs that all have a pretty similar sound to this one; I’m sure you’d enjoy it. The album itself is pretty existential and heavy thematically but is a real treat when you’re in the mood for stuff like that. And yeah, definitely! Different Class is such an amazing project, has a track or two that I skip nowadays but the moments on it like Bar Italia and others are such strong tracks that they completely make up for it. And to be honest, Vincent Craine is a song that I added as a mood setter (seemed like the right place to start the thing off), while Dirty Old Town made an appearance cause of my unhealthy obsession with that band. In hindsight both are pretty niche and not that great to include in a mix like this. Once again, many thanks for listening!
May 14, 2025 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau Section 70-80-90 This was a good mix of stuff I'm familiar with and things that are new to me, I had a lot of fun with this! Ridin The Storm out was a fun opener I've always liked REO Following that I also enjoyed Looking For The Next Best Thing, Werewolves of London is a personal favorite of mine but I haven't really listened to Warren Zevon outside of that so this was fun I'm also not too familiar with Kim Wilde but I liked Cambodia, the instrumental was oddly horror movie adjacent at points I really liked it lol Lynryd Skynyrd is not my personal go to of the bands of this Era but they're super talented and Simple Man is a great song Red Hot Chili Peppers has some of my favorite songs of all time so I'm happy to see them get some love, out of the big hits I don't go to Otherside as often as I should but it's a great song. I need to listen to more Styx cause I always loved Renegade, definitely one of my favorites of the tape if you're including songs I've heard before. Express Yourself is awesome, there's something about sampling in this way during this Era that feels so much more authentic than when people do it now. Loved it. Beautiful Loser probably isn't something I'd go back to a ton but I still quite enjoyed it and it's a good spot to put it in the playlist House Of The Rising Sun is cheating, if you don't like this song you should go the way of Kurt Cobain. 10/10 I have a soft spot for all the Nena songs I've heard I don't speak a f---in lick of German but I always liked the sound and this is no different I think You Can't Always Get What You Want is a good song objectively and I have it on my liked songs cause it gets stuck in my head a lot but the Stones were never really my thing. They don't move me much but I appreciate them and their impact. Kinda similar thing for Jay, outside of a few songs he never clicked with me. I did like D'evils he always raps well and I really liked the beat here The Gambler is another cheat code, always loved this song. Not much more to say, good s---. Hip Hop Hooray is a classic that I wouldn't go back to much, I still really like it and am always happy to hear it but I never really go out of my way to listen. Torn speaks to my soul, that you for slapping some white girl music on here I've always really liked this one. You Shook Me All Night Long is nowhere near a personal favorite of mine when it comes to AC/DC but it's definitely a classic and a good closer Good s--- man! We haven't had even close to a bad mixtape yet and this is no exception! Favorite Songs: Otherside, Renegade, Express Yourself, House Of The Rising Sun, the Nena song (not spelling that), The Gambler, Torn RATING 8.5/10
May 16, 2025 @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau Michael Myers - Section 60 , 70 , 80, 90 Even thought he cheated and put a Rolling Stones song from the 60's, this was one of my favourite mixtapes from this round. Only song I wasn't feeling was the Dutch? Song. Score 9/10
May 16, 2025 @Justin Trudeau Mind if I join back? I quit my job and got an offer from a nicer, more organized place. My old job took up my whole time and energy.
May 16, 2025 @Jimmy Jazz - At the Edge of Light REVIEW Score: 8.8 (14/16) A solid tape from the former Stepdad Enjoyer and (I think) the first tape where I did not recognize a single song. I like the focus on UK rock on here, a lot of great stuff in this tape. Vincent Craine was a great opening song and set the mood for this mixtape quickly. Some standouts include Vincent Craine, Last Dance, The Saddest Song, The Guns of Brixton, I Would Hurt a Fly, Free Money, Legendary Hearts, and Bar Italia. The only misses for me were Satori and Add It Up. I can understand the appeal for both, just not sure if they were my thing. Great tape Jimmy Jazz! @AOTWClub Mixtape Madness Round 2 Rankings: 1.
