Jul 27, 2025 at 5:53 PM Fat Freddy's Drop - Based On A True Story @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau @Allis Mines On first listen this album is a warm, soulful ride through dub, reggae, and funk-infused grooves. It feels organic and lived-in, like the band hit record during an extended jam session and just let the music breathe. The vibe is incredibly consistent and relaxing, though a few tracks stretch longer than they need to. Still, the musicianship and mood carry it. Rating: 7.5/10 A vibe-heavy record with heart and skill, but some tracks could use more focus or variety. Favorites: - Wandering Eye - Ernie - Hope Least Favorites: - Del Fuego - Roady had to repost cause editing to fix grammar f---s s--- up

Jul 30, 2025 at 1:46 AM @AOTWClub @Justin Trudeau Pulp - Different Class Now other from Bar Italia being on a previous mixtape I wasn't sure what to expect from this record. On my first listen I treated it pretty passively all the way to Underwear, but I felt like that was doing it a disservice cause even though I enjoy the britpop sound the lyrics to this album were a lot more vivid and well written than I was expecting so I ended up waiting until I had the free time to sit and listen with the lyrics up the whole time. I thought that the lyrical intersecting between classicism, d--- near sexual deviancy and bit and pieces of adolescence to be really interesting. Although I really like a lot of the creativity between chronicling someone's up and downs through the perspective of a bed, or even stuff erring on the more relatable side like Disco 2000 (what an incredible song btw) I found myself wishing for more and being the most intrigued by the class related songs, Mis-Shapes and Common People are so great to me on a writing and sound level that I wish it was explored even more thoroughly but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy what I got. I find songs like I Spy as f----- as it is to be really interesting on conceptual basis that I really found myself enjoying it although it took a bit for the music to catch up to my interest on the lyrics in that one, the moody, poetic atmosphere works for the album in its favor especially with songs like F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E but I really like when they go full Britpop upbeat with it like they do on some of the choruses. I could sit here and go song by song but my thoughts are pretty similar throughout the record cause it's so consistent but I really enjoyed this, especially when I locked in more on the music instead of treating it passively. Favorite Songs: Mis-Shapes, Common People, Disco 2000, Somethings Changed, Underwear, Bar Italia RATING 8.5/10
Jul 30, 2025 at 1:48 AM Jarvis Cocker (crazy name) has a poetic way with singing and writing that I'm gonna be thinking about for a while and getting that out of an album is all I could really ask for! Much much hornier album than I ever expected @Jimmy Jazz great pick
Jul 30, 2025 at 3:23 AM Fat Freddy’s Drop - Based on a True Story RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 6/10 I’ll be honest I didn’t enjoy most of the time I spent listening to this album hence why I have no favorites. I found most of it to be boring, and the gimmick of each track being 6+ minutes makes each listen even more grueling. Most of the tracks feeling like they are the same tempo adds more to the exhaustion. I know these tracks are supposed to be chill and not energetic but the length of these songs turns the vibes into a snooze fest at times. I really don’t care for a lot of the sounds used here either. I feel like I’d have to be high or a surfer dude to enjoy this at all. Although there’s other music I’d rather be listening to on the beach, this album can be good for the beach and any seafaring activities as well as some tropical island type s---. There’s some good, unique vocals here and there along with some decent lyrics sometimes. There’s some talent put into these instrumentals especially when certain tracks progress into something almost completely different. I’m trying my best to be fair to this album with my rating. I know people probably want it to be 7+ but this album just wasn’t for me at all. I didn’t connect with it or enjoy it very much so while keeping that in mind along with the great talent displayed on the album the highest I can go is 6/10. I’ll likely never return to this project. It’s not a bad album at all and to a lot of people it’ll probably be good but for my personal taste this just isn’t good to me. Above average isn’t bad though. @AOTWClub
