May 20, 2024 Just a heads up, my reviews are gonna be lazy as s--- using this structure: Standouts: Skips: Score: Final Thoughts (Skit): I'll only go into more detail if I feel like it's necessary Also, I'll only use integer numbers for scoring cause I could never tell the difference between a 7.5 or 7.3 lol, ofc I know a 7.5 means it's better than a 7.3 but c'mon, when it comes to scoring unless you're doing some type of calculation I don't see how you can give an album an 8.4 instead of just an 8 imo
May 20, 2024 I think only mods can do it, I can’t tag Michael Myers though because he has me on ignore.
May 20, 2024 For a little background on why I chose the album before any reviews: This albums sits at a comfortable 2nd in Isaiah's discog for me but I think this is his most straightforward rap record that has sounds that could be a gateway to his other projects if it's enjoyed. I also think he's a very underappreciated and interesting late addition to TDE, the southern influence and overall vibe are a pretty unique sound for them while still fitting with his labelmates. Even though he's one of my most played from the group I think he hasn't gotten even more traction due to the drug, alcohol and mental health issues that almost got him kicked off the label multiple times and only resulted in 3 full studio albums since 2014. He seems to be doing well now though so hopefully it doesn't result in too long if a wait!
May 21, 2024 Yessir, I already liked THIB but it still grew on me big time and I love it but the other 2 are just super strong. TST took a couple spins to click but once it did it became one of my favorite chill rap albums, production and vibes are immaculate even if the lyrics are a bit more obtuse and obscure on some songs compared to CD.
May 21, 2024 The Sun's Tirade is a masterpiece and always my go-to album during the more melancholic seasons in the year.
May 21, 2024 Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo Standouts: R.I.P Kevin Miller, Ronnie Drake, West Savannah, Heavenly Father, Banana, Shot You Down Skips: Brad Jordan Best Features: SZA, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock Score: 8/10 Final Thoughts: I always knew OF Isaiah Rashad but he was one of those artists that lived permanently in my backlog, thanks to this whole thing I had an excuse (if I ever needed one) to listen to one of his projects in full and I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised, not that I expected it to be s--- but I didn't expect it to be THIS good. Throughout the album he reminded me a lot of Kendrick in a way, something about his delivery idk, anyway I'm gonna have to check out more of his catalog now, so thanks @jankland for introducing me to this album
May 21, 2024 f--- yeah, I agree that Brad Jordan is one of the weaker songs, it might take a second to click if not on first listen but check out The Sun's Tirade! He really leans into the vibey depressive aspect of his music on that one.
May 21, 2024 I completely fell in love with West Savannah, I'll check out more of his s--- soon no doubt
May 21, 2024 Small spoiler from my full review, I think West Savannah is one of my favorite songs period lol
