Aug 11, 2024 I think that’s the best thing about this thread. We can all expand our horizons and will be better off after it.
Aug 11, 2024 Id be into that but movies are a bit harder to find since spotify/apple music has basically everything
Aug 11, 2024 I’m interested to get into Wreckless’s classic metal pick. Classic rock and classic metal are genres I always heard growing up because that’s all my grandparents would listen to besides some occasional country, but I never bothered to actually delve into what I was hearing. I’ve probably heard Iron Maiden songs before and just don’t realize it.
Aug 11, 2024 Moving back into college in one week, but I got a nice schedule so hopefully that will provide me with more time to get these albums listened to earlier! The weeks fly way too fast in the summer and it’s the next week before I even realize. I’ll have that Cube review in tomorrow
Aug 12, 2024 It's funny to me when people refer to bands like Maiden, Priest or Sabbath as rock. Those bands are pioneers of Heavy Metal. They defined what Heavy Metal is so in a way that makes them more ''metal'' than what is considered metal today. I think the term ''Classic metal'' describes the era or genre perfectly and shows how much it has evolved over the years. I've never seen it be used before until you mentioned it. If Maiden doesn’t immediately turn you off you might find yourself getting into their music. I thought they were just okay when I first heard one of their popular songs at around 14 or 15 but it wasn't until I was exposed to more of their songs and paid closer attention that I really appreciated their music. Finding music you connect with is a powerful experience
Aug 12, 2024 These are my favorite metal bands from my casualfag ears: Pantera Black Sabbath Madball Iron Maiden Is SOAD even metal? Cause I love them too Rammstein Probably more I'm forgetting
Aug 12, 2024 That's a good list. SOAD are in their own lane for sure. Truly unique and all time great. Never heard Madball. Gonna check them out.
Aug 12, 2024 I think the overall evolution of metal as a genre into much heavier sounds and growls have retroactively placed the classic acts more towards rock than what was considered Heavy Metal back then for people. Genres are a weird thing lol
Aug 12, 2024 I like the movie idea. Lot of the albums here are 60+ minutes and listened to more than once. Could be a weekly review club seperate from this thread. If you seen the movie you don't necessarily have to watch it again.
Aug 13, 2024 Was outta town/been mad busy but just joined the mention group so I'll actually remember, sad I missed ice cube cuz Go To Church was a high school classic 4 me but will peep wreckless pick later this week
