Sep 18, 2024 Sure but then again reviewers also give half starts so 2.5 stars is a 5 which still "looks" better than a 4. However the system I think for me its also because of school. You guys work with letters, but here we get a grade from 1 to 10 with tests/exams. You need at least a 5.5, which is rounded to a 6 to pass a test. At school, everywhere. So I'm used to that grading system, which means if I give an album or movie a 5/10 I think its not good enough for a "passing" grade. Not that its terrible but not a good movie/song. If I give it a 5.5 or 6 thats like the bottom of okay for me. Funny how these things can be or at least feel so different haha
Sep 19, 2024 Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me Favorite tracks: Putting Holes In Happiness, The Red Carpet Grave, Just a Car Crash Away, Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand) OVERALL RATING: 6/10 There’s a lot of awesome guitars, drums, and melodies on this album. I even like/relate to some of the lyrical themes. My main issue is Manson’s vocal delivery. It’s just really hit or miss for me. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn’t. That’s mainly what holds me back from fully connecting to and enjoying this music. If I enjoyed his voice more I’d probably give the album a 7/10. It’s definitely not a bad album, I’d say it’s at least above average. I can see why people like this but it’s just not something I’d have the desire to listen to much. The tracks I favorited are tracks I’d be more likely to come back to though. @AOTWClub

Sep 20, 2024 Marilyn Manson- Eat Me, Drink Me (2007) Marilyn Manson is a band (and artist) that I have a pretty odd relationship with, because I'm very familiar with a lot of their work, while simultaneously having no experience with a lot of it. I might've mentioned this ITT before, but I legitimately love Manson's first four albums. Portrait is great, and I believe that the "Triptych" that includes Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals, and Holy Wood is one of the best trilogies in music history. But despite this praise, I really have no experience with the band's work after that. Aside from a couple songs from 2004's The Golden Age of Grotesque and his Kanye collabs (what a weird combination huh), I have absolutely no experience with the band's music after the early 2000's. The reason I bring this up is to establish what I think of when discussing Manson: A band that has experimented with Heavy Metal, Industrial, Glam Rock, Electronic etc. while also using outlandish concepts like Aliens and Satanic imagery to make some legitimately profound music Before discussing the album itself, I want to comment on the band lineup for this record. This record is missing many of the band members that truly made the band's earlier run special like Twiggy Ramirez, Madonna Wayne Gacy, Ginger Fish and John 5 (this might be an unpopular opinion but as much as I like Zim Zum, John 5 is a much better guitarist). For the most part this album is entirely the work of Manson and Tim Skold. And honestly as much as I love the work that the former members contributed, I think Skold does a great job holding his own. Then there's the album. First off, I think that some background is definitely needed when discussing this record. Most of the lyrics revolve around Manson's relationship with his then girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood. There's some lyrical allusions to Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita" (which I've actually read before. Amazing novel, especially with such a controversial subject matter), and this is a bit more "emo" than Manson's former work. His vocal tone is definitely different from before, but not in a bad way. I actually kind of find it refreshing that this record tackles different subject matter than what the band had done before. Like Ripper mentioned, the drums are great, the guitars are amazing (Skold f---ing kills it on "Putting Holes in Happiness) and it all sounds very cohesive. Overall, I really enjoyed Eat Me, Drink Me. I'm probably gonna check out the band's 2004 album after this, and maybe I'll check out their work that comes after (I've heard good things about Pale Emperor). Sep 22, 2024 @AOTWClub I apologize @Justin Trudeau I wasn't familiar with your game. I've obviously heard Manson throughout the years and different singles and such but going into my first full project by him I was interested to see how'd a complete experience would work for me. First things first I really like the way the album sounds, a lot of the guitars, drums and melodies chosen really gives it a 90s edgy movie soundtrack vibe that I really like lol. I like Marilyn's voice and think it fits very well with the music he tries to make, the lyrics are pretty much what I expected a little f----- up albeit entertaining imagery. My main complaint for the album is that somewhere in the middle the soundscapes of the song start losing me slightly but It's not cause they're bad they just sometimes overstay their welcome for like a minute and it's mostly just a reaction to me loving the first few tracks so much! For example "If I Was Your Vampire" is probably one of my favorite songs I've heard from this club as a whole so far Justin made the right call thinking I'd like this album for sure, makes me interested in his earlier projects too! Favorite Tracks: If I Was Your Vampire, Putting Holes In Happiness, The Red Carpet Grave, They Said That h---'s Not Hot, EAT ME, DRINK ME. RATING: 7.7/10
