    Disturbed - Indestructible

Favorite tracks: Indestructible, Inside the Fire, Façade

    OVERALL RATING: 6/10

Lots of catchy tunes here. The instrumentation is great, but the singer’s voice doesn’t always land for me. When it works, it works though. There’s some thoughtful lyrics here which I can appreciate. The album really started losing me in the second half, I feel like it could’ve used more variety or something. After a while there wasn’t much that stuck out to me. There’s some legendary b-----r songs here but as a whole album experience it’s not the best. Still above average though. @AOTWClub

    Disturbed- Indestructible

Gave this album 3 listens and enjoyed it more each listen. The guitar work is awesome, a few really good solos throughout the album and the vocals are raw but very clear and everything to me is very in tune.

Some of my favorites are: inside the fire, the night, perfect insanity, divide and criminal

There are a few stinkers though, like songs that I thought were trash- torn and enough

I definitely saved all those songs I listed to my big favorites playlist. Might check out more Disturbed albums when I have some time!

    Score: 6.5/10

    Disturbed - Indestructible

    review

A pleasant surprise. I was never much of a Disturbed fan and I was NEVER down with the Sickness but I always thought that this band had potential when I heard the song "Voices" many years ago. I feel like this was the album on which these guys were beginning to add a little more musicianship and dynamics to their songwriting and were shifting away from the Nu Metal idiocy that got them their initial fame. When I first heard the single "Indestructible", I was surprised by cool riffs, grooves, and a well written song that sound much more like traditional metal(albeit with a very modern touch) than anything I'd heard in a long time. From start to finish, much of this thing is in the same vein. Very solid riffs, complex songs(for a 4 minute mainstream band) and a good overall, unified feel to the album and each of the songs. While these guys aren't melting any faces with their chops, what you'll find is very solidly played metal, with simple, but well written, guitar riffs that sounds like traditional Disturbed only with much more to it. These guys get extra points for having a vocalist that I can understand(SORELY lacking in modern metal). His idiotic "Sickness" rants are in the minimum here on this album and he just lays back and does what a metal vocalist should do and sing. The band is locked in very well on this one - impressive, especially from a band I’m not very fond of. My only critique is that the album starts to wind down near the middle of it. It becomes clear that, albeit well produced and sung, the songs follow a template of sorts and fail to venture into a more experimental territory; they start to sound exactly the same.

    6/10

Grew up loving Disturbed's singles but never listened to an album. It could be because of my nostalgic bias but I really enjoyed my time with this!

It's very theatrical and kinda cringe but it feels very endearing and a product of it's time in a positive way, like I don't think you'll ever get a song now like Indestructible or something as heartbreaking as Inside The Fire very often anyone especially in the genre.

I've always liked David Draimans ridiculous vocals, it works super well for the kind of music that makes and the instrumentation all around is great.

The sound does kinda tire itself out in its runtime though, and although I didn't feel the fatigue or dislike of certain songs to the degree other reviews did I an definitely see where it comes from. I didn't dislike any songs though which I consider an absolute win especially for an album that can come across dated to some.

Very fun to go down memory lane and it made me in the mood to relisten to all the songs I haven't heard from a while that I love from this band so thank you @Wreckless!

    Disturbed- Indestructible
I want to start off this review by admitting that to say that I am unfamiliar with Disturbed would be an understatement. Aside from hearing the name, the only song of theirs I’d heard before was their cover of “The Sound of Silence”, and the only reason I had heard it was because they performed it on Conan, so i was basically entering this album completely blind.

First I’ll mention the things that I liked. Even though it’s something that I bring up in almost every metal/rock review, I loved the guitar work on here. Dan Donegan is my personal MVP for this album, and it mught be my favorite part of it. That’s not to day that the other members aren’t good or anything, but he really stole the show for me.

Now, I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I just couldn’t get into David Draiman’s voice. It’s not bad or anything (He especially shines on tracks like “Haunted”) but for the most part I just couldn’t vibe with the vocals that much.

Overall, I like the album fine. I don’t really have any crazy negative opinions toward it or anything, it’s just that the vocals aren’t my cup of tea, and that affects the enjoyability for me personally.

Glad to see I wasn’t being a hater rating it 6/10. Most people seem to agree on that 6-7 range.

The year is 1976. David Bowie is severely addicted to cocaine and ultimately decides to move to Berlin. Straight off of the critical success of his last album Station to Station, the entire Berlin era is the root of various classic records like Iggy Pop's The Idiot and Bowie's very own 'Heroes' and Lodger. These three albums are each amazing in their own different ways, but (in my opinion) they all pale in comparison to the first Bowie album to come out of these sessions...
My Pick for AOTW Club is:
    Low (1977)
    by David Bowie
To say that Low is a monumental album in rock would be an understatement. This record marked the start of Bowie's various collaborations with music legend Brian Eno, and would prove to be incredibly influential for various artists including Nine Inch Nails, Joy Division, and The Cure. Low is also very notable for having a clear sonic difference from the first "day" side primarily made up of rock songs and the second "night" side, which is entirely made up of atmospheric ambient music (The closing track "Subterraneans" is one of my favorite songs of all time). Released in the middle of Bowie's classics era, Low is an incredibly great and influential albums, and I hope that you all enjoy it as much as I do

After choosing Kings of Crunk last time I decided to pick one of my favorite albums of all time.

I'm also guessing that this is the closest this club will ever get to reviewing an Ambient record, so sadly Aphex Twin's nearly 3 hour long SAW 2 will forever be a dream-pick of mine :emoji_slight_frown:
