you said "people voted for Trump for the very fact that he isn't your typical president." that's naive. they voted for him because Obama's not the typical president--i.e.- he's black. you can try to spin this in a million ways but trump's campaign was founded on and grounded in the idea that a black president was illegitimate.

you're also naive for saying you respect trump because he...says whatever he wants? what about the fact that those words are animating his followers to carry out hate crimes? you think that's cool?

trump isn't bush. people aren't mad about the patriot act. they're mad kanye's throwing his support behind an actual fascist.

it's fine if you think that! hillary's supporters aren't chasing women through shopping malls and yelling about deportation.

fans of a musician aren't going to be up in arms for any extended period over, like, trade policy. but they will absolutely push back on naked white nationalism.

I just refuse to believe everyone who voted for Trump is some stone cold racist. I think that's a bit naive. I know genuinely good people who voted for Trump for reasons such as having children in the military (graduated from West Point, went on to finish ranger school, potentially could be in a situation like Benghazi) they struggled with the decision to vote in his favor, but found that in their best interest. They're not racist at all, I've witnessed them do acts such as buy/help cook tons of food for inner city shelters for thanksgiving, and I've never seen/heard them display anything other than compassion for minorities. Yes, I know he has given racists a sense of empowerment, but they're nothing but clowns anyway, and I just think if good people stick together we can overcome their hate. I also think some people were fed up with our system, and believed a vote for such an outsider could potentially change.

I guess I should have been more clear, I don't respect that man -- at all. He's a loser. I respect the trait of speaking one's mind, but I don't respect what he actually says. Like if we had a president who was very blunt, but in a a constructive way -- not a racist way -- then I think that would be a good thing. Also, h--- no I don't think what he says is cool. Half of my friends are black (yes, I know this is the number one cop out for people that are actually racist, but that's not what I'm trying to do) and I hate the fact that Trump gives these low life scum the power to display racism. Just last weekend, my two friends, one white one black, and I walked out of the bar, and the security guard calls us back over and demands my black friend come back inside on some bs claim "that they saw him do something and needed to ask a few questions." He was with us the whole time, I know for a fact he didn't do s---, so I start video taping and asking why they didn't need to speak with us all. Eventually they said f--- it and let us go because they changed their whole tone after I started recording. I never had a pit in my stomach so bad because you don't realize how f----- up things are until you witness it first hand (it's not my first time seeing racism first hand, but just a sombering reminder.) Like why are the hassling my friend just because he's black? What the f--- is wrong with people. Probably an unnecessary story, but no, I don't think racism or hate is cool.

I also have a hard time believing Kanye is fully behind Trump, do you actually believe in that completely?

if they're not racists, they're okay with a president who is. aren't we splitting hairs now?
    source?
what about trump's campaign indicates to you that he would handle the military in a responsible way? that he understands the human cost of war?
    see: above
and then turn around and vote for a guy who has proposed a muslim registry, mass deportations, the end of roe v wade, etc? yeah, okay, very compassionate.
based on what? all the good people who came together to stop lynchings before?
you should spend more time considering the absurdity that a new york-born billionaire who lives in a gold-plated penthouse is an "outsider."
we've had that dozens of times

On mobile so I can't quote like you did so just gonna number the responses. I also edited my last response a little bit, don't know if you saw or not.

    1) they're not ok with a racist, they just found it in the best interest of their children in the military if Trump was president. I don't know why, but that's the conclusion they came to. People are allowed to be a little selfish sometimes! Especially when they believe it's in the best interest of their children. That doesn't mean they're racist or ok with racism. If you had children wouldn't you want what you believe is best for them over anything else?

    2) I guess you're gonna have to take my word for it, which I know you won't. Why would you, I'm just some guy on the internet. But I would vouch that I've never met a pair of people that are more of genuinely good, kind people. They do nothing help people. In need of money? They got you. In need of emotional support? They got you. They'll do anything for people without even asking for so much as a thank you. I've never heard them say a bad word about anything or anyone. Like I said, you don't have to believe me, but they are good people. EDIT: one was a volunteer firefighter (based on the fact he that he just enjoys helping people because he makes well over six figures, so he sure as h--- doesn't need to do that) who was a first hand responder to 9/11 if that means anything to you. EDIT 2: their former babysitter was an immigrant from Brazil, and they sponsored her so she could get citizenship. On top of that, the babysitter asked if they could also sponsor her boyfriend whom they never met, which the also did after meeting him.

    3) I'd have to ask them that. I didn't vote for that man. But if I had to guess it was prosbsblt more about the blantant disregard of the Benghazi situation by HRC than anything Trump has said.

    4) see #1. Going with what's in the best interest of their children doesn't mean they say all those things he proposed aren't terrible. I'm telling you these people are republicans and struggled with the decision up until going into the booth.

    5) I guess I look at things more in a "glass half full" kinda way. I think times have changed and more people will stand up for what is right.

    5) I meant outsider as in no political background, no big-money backing, etc.

I know it's hard for you to believe, but not everyone who voted trump is a racist. Even if it's just a small group of good people, you can't just write them all off as terrible people.

So sick of hearing the words white nationalism. You talk about a conspiracy theory, ffs. He’s an American nationalist – period. Where's the racism in wanting to enforce legal immigration? What's fascistic about opposing mass importation of Middle Eastern refugees in an era of Islamic terror around the globe? These are issues that concern all Americans.

If he only speaks to rednecks and skinheads, someone please explain to me how he managed to outperform McCain and Romney among blacks and Hispanics.
