Jul 2, 2017 problem is this isnt as simple as a ye/jay problem, this is a breach of contract between a 600 million dollar company and one of its signees. None of them even have a full grasp of the situation and theres nothing they could agree on in private that would change the course of the legal repercussions. Jay doesn't have full ownership of tidal, and can't make decisions on his own with Kanye, on behalf of the company. I've had a friend that breached his 2 year contract, and we're still cool on the casual but I'm never doing business with him again.
Jul 2, 2017 d---.... they really ain't cool anymore. At least if Kanye gets off tidal, we don't have to deal with stupid tidal exclusives when he releases new music.
Jul 2, 2017 well Jay purchased the company and afaik has only sold 1/3 of it to sprint. (thats provided that when he announced other artists as "owners" it was a marketing scheme and not literal) so he's still a majority shareholder. Also, they are alleging that eachother have breached contract, court may deem that one or the other haven't. Like they literally could talk it out. there's nothing stopping jay z from controlling his own company - he may have other investors disagree/stop his decisions, which would lead to some kind of work around. and if they did talk it out in private, they would avoid all legal repercussions because they'd likely reach an agreement. like, lawyers don't have conversations, they charge per page of a letter/email sent. its likely the lawyers spoke 3 times via text over the course of 6 months. where as a 6 minute face to face conversation would involve a lot more dialogue. Like my point is that Kanye running to a lawyer immediately was a bad idea and has ultimately made the situation worse. itll be interesting to see what comes of the court case. then again inwouldnt be half surprised if in a few months time watch the throne 2 starts being promo'd and these f--s just did it for publicity. (wouldnt be anything new, beyonce made the news with her "jay z diss" on her last piece of trash noise-collage)
Jul 2, 2017 btw, before anyone tries to defend kanye, just remember every other person in the tidal16 seems quite happy. bet that kanye ego got him like "1. im kanyeeeyeee west 2. im the best 3. im better than the tidal16 4. im friends with jay z irl these f--s posers" then when pay day came he realised he got paid the same cut as everyone else and its not good enough for him.
Jul 2, 2017 thing is nothing in tidal is decided on jay-z's own accord without it being brought up in the board first. Jay-Z is definitely the majority holder, mascot and spokesperson, but theres much more to the leadership of tidal than just him.
Jul 2, 2017 Tidal is not profitable, there is no way they can pay upfront for promised contracts now. That doesn't mean he wouldn't get the money if tidal became profitable.... That said, Spotify, which has like 6x paid subs, is still bleeding money. Tidal has a long way to go and probably won't even make it between Spotify and apple music. Kanye has a right to be upset, but honestly he should have understood the business side of it first. Whoever goes exclusive with tidal is crazy, it clamps theirs sales by like 10x.
Jul 2, 2017 A quick google suggests tidal is losing about 30 million a year....as if they would drop another 20 to pay Kanye, lol.
Jul 2, 2017 yes they did, earlier this year. http://www.billboard.com/articles/business/7662726/tidal-sprint-deal-future
