Feb 8, 2015 You're a perfect example of not appreciating Kanye's work. He doesn't just talk about Nike. For example: When he says "I know WE the new slaves" That means corporations exploiting customers having shady business practices He also says "Meanwhile the DEA teamed up with the CCA, they tryna lock n----s up, they tryna make new slaves." - He's talking about more than just Nike bruh. If you're too thick headed to see that, well that's your fault
Feb 8, 2015 Remember when he sampled the song about lynchings and dropped these lines. Let's take it back to the first party When you tried your first molly A real Sam Cooke he is.
Feb 8, 2015 Loooool @CharlieWork is the ultimate jimmy rustler But yeh Charlie the thing with New Slaves was about more than shoes. Like, he started off as "no one is taking me seriously in fashion, and I think it might be because I'm not only black, but a rapper, and rappers are often perceived as stereotypical African Americans" and then spiraled into more subjects. That's why he says " MEANWHILE the dea teaming up with the cca" is because he's drawing comparison of how racism is still alive, kanyes case is just" rich n----- racism" where they want him to" come in please buy more" but when he wants to design clearly he doesn't have enough taste because he's an "urban artist"
Feb 8, 2015 He referenced BOTL in his racially-charged New Slaves, and then had BOTL include a sample of a song about racism. Pretty cool reference and idea and execution if you ask me
Feb 8, 2015 I never said the song was about shoes. The fact is that a minor personal, financial inconvenience inspired him to be the voice of the oppressed. In between songs making fun of Parkinson's, talking about Asian p----, masturbating his ego, and plenty other low brow subjects. He's about as political as when Eminem made Mosh. Sorry if i don't buy into the pretension It's clear that he doesn't take it seriously enough to do research or present it in an interesting way. Instead he sprinkles in provocative statements for shock value. He is not an empathetic or knowledgeable figure. He is a pop star with a cult following who makes good music. It was a flavor or the week thing to him. That's all. A very brave slacktivist album in the age of slacktivism. He hates stereotypes so much that he plays into them. Jay Electronica's crazy Nation of Islam schtick is more impressive to me. Lowkey too and he's probably joined ISIS by now.
Feb 8, 2015 I'm not saying Kanye did it very well, I was just pointing out that you're intentionally painting it in a bad light and was trying to give a more open-minded view Personally, I don't think Ye knows as much as people give him credit for, but why shouldn't he occassionaly add in his sentiments as long as they make sense? This whole argument seems pointless because it's "wah Kanye didnt talk about issues the way I wanted him to"
Feb 8, 2015 Ummm this thread is about his motivations. Which are shallow and self-parody. I only gave my opinion when you did.
Feb 8, 2015 Nah mang in the OP you were complaining about the HOW of Kanyes thought process and not the process or the result itself I'm saying that's silly. Yeezus was inspired by a God d--- vase the man obviously thinks differently than you or I
Feb 8, 2015 In all fairness, you know I was b8ing. I never come on here to debate. It's a boring and fruitless exercise.
Feb 8, 2015 I disagree but it's funny to see people who don't realize that youre kidding Anyways, this is for you
Feb 8, 2015 I'm all for playing devil's advocate but I'd rather people use logic and reasoning to do so rather than using a misquote just to cause a reaction. Also @CharlieWork I wish you didn't think debate was a pointless exercise because when you actually try you do a good job of firing back and forth with people.
Feb 9, 2015 new slaves is actually about, you know, the private prison industry and vacuous brand obsession and the pervasiveness of racism across class lines. but yes we can go with your reading if you want.
Feb 9, 2015 charliework is the freshman "philosophy major" who lives on your floor of the dorms and tries to roll his own cigarettes. he just had his first sleeve of beer and is ready to tell you like it is, you sheep.
