Apr 28, 2018 Yooo i'm not gonna lie, now that the cdq is out the song kinda grew on me. I fw that s--- heavy
Apr 28, 2018 Also i feel like it's not really a political song, in terms of 'I must shove my political opinion into everyones face'. More like a conversation where ye tries to explain his thoughts to the people aka tip.
Apr 28, 2018 Are we pretending like this entire schtick isn't happening solely because Obama called him a jackass?
Apr 28, 2018 Initial thoughts: Aside from this not being too aesthetically enjoyable with the awkward flows and rhyme schemes, does the dynamic this song not feel more than a little... staged? I understand what Kanye is trying to do here, essentially acknowledge all of the reasons why people take issue with his recent views and antics. The self-deprecation on this track is actually a very Eminem move, as tired of a comparison as that is. But you have to wonder how much freedom a guest like TI was given, or how much was scripted by either Kanye or someone on his team who helped write the song. This song was obviously meant to be a risk and to show that Kanye AT LEAST hears the reasons why his actions are harmful (even if I think people are giving him way too much political sway in the first place. That's the internet and celebrity culture for you nowadays) and has a retort. But it never feels beyond a surface level response, his lyrics are essentially his tweets strung together to make for a pretty shaky verse. Even if TI's lyrics at the end seem like he's start to get the ball rolling on something, it just ends. For all the risks Kanye has taken with his music in the past, this one feels pretty forced in comparison. The song never really feels out of Kanye's control, which is where the power of a song like this really should derive from. Again, just some first thoughts.
Apr 28, 2018 Charlamagne said the album isn't political, but he has a consistent message throughout it. Idk what to believe.
Apr 28, 2018 Which is an expressly political, preachy point. Ya know, unlike your original post would have us believe. Also, it's a false dichotomy, and unlike Kanye, no sane person thinks the republicans share interests with black people in this country. There are a million better ways to criticize the democratic pandering to people of color and subsequent failure to deliver anything than to suggest that an insane conservative party is a better option. It's laughably ignorant and dangerous.
Apr 28, 2018 Regardless of the content I like the concept (Ye and TI answering eachothers questions) a lot. Not something I would listen to though so right now it's 0/2 for Ye.
