Apr 3, 2016 tbh every rapper should perform with a live band, it has always been much better and thats also why I love watching kendrick performs. Unfortunately, not everybody can afford it. Q-Tip mentioned that back in the day, most Hip-Hop kids came from the inner city...and they couldn't afford instruments or lessons. Maybe a drum kit or horn here or there in the hood, but mainly they had their parents record collection and saved up money for mixers or drum machines. No chance for a whole band. Plus, you'd need a heckuva big caravan to roll 5 or 6 deep plus instruments on the road if you're a small time band.
