    I see what you all are saying but if pop is not a specific genre, in which genre would you include e.g. Katy Perry? She's clearly a pop artist and would have been with her sound even if she wouldn't be popular. Kendrick is a popular rap artists, yes. Does it automatically make him an pop artist? That depends how you define pop.

    If you think pop music = popular music => Kendrick is a pop artist
    If you think pop music = distinct genre => Kendrick is not a pop artist

    yeah this is where it gets weird kinda. Like Katy perry, regardless of fame would be considered a "pop artist" right? Like i'd agree there is a "pop" genre, but by extension, that includes artists from non-pop genres.

    Does that make sense? that's pretty much how I see it. Almost as if it's like there is a pop genre, but the pop is a bit of a blanket term that stretches over multiple genres
