@Narsh GOTG was hyped as a world building space opera and it was a rushed origin story with a sense of humor. The world it built had no flair or semblance of visual identity. It had the harmless appeal of a Pixar film. The drama wasn't dramatic and the action was the same derivative, kid-friendly stuff we've seen in superhero films for the past decade.

    The Maze Runner (2014)
My girlfriend made me watch it. Had no expectations going in. I knew some of the actors from Skins and Game of Thrones. Another entry into the young adult lit trend that hasn't captivated me since Harry Potter. If it does get a sequel, I have no clue where they're going with it. The movie completely lost me in the last 15 minutes.

    The Great Gatsby (2013)
Girlfriend also made me watch it (I see a trend here). Another movie aiming to leach off of young adults who read books. Part jewely advert, part roaring 20s fantasy. Who decided a period piece needed that much green screen work? The soundtrack is laughably out of place. If Tarantino can effectively use Rick Ross in a Spaghetti western, anything should be possible, right? Apparently not. That worked because the tones worked together. This movie had the same sad a--- Lana Del Ray song playing every 5 minutes. You can retool the instrumentation all you want; It's still a somber love ballad. It's not right for every scene. Beyond that, it looks like the Tim Burton Chocolate Factory. The movie sold it's soul to the top 40 charts and Tiffany & Co. to afford sets it didn't need and actors it didn't deserve.

    Spirited Away (2001)
This s--- right here? This s--- right here?!? This is how you captivate the imagination. Story telling is an artform, not some mad lib for you to fill in the blanks with. In America this s--- would've been that 3D animation that ages terribly, had two sequels plus a TV show, and anything tangential to macabre would've been left in the editing bay.

That was cool, she killed it. Glad she got a bigger role, liked her in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Scream V.

    Speaking of biopics (kinda?):
    MV5BNWI0N2VlMTAtZGFhYS00YzdhLWEzM2EtMWUwMzBkYWQ5NTMwXkEyXkFqcGc@._V1_.jpg

Movie about the 90 minutes leading up to the first airing of SNL, well acted and extremely well shot with a good sense of urgency. Falls into a bit of the self aggrandizing trap that movies based on real events have but nowhere near as bad as some other films in that regard, not everything is completely accurate timeline wise but having it all coalesce at the same time for the movies sake helps with the pacing so it was a good decision that they did it.

Casting was very inspired, a bunch of picks that I wouldn't have expected for the people they're portraying and sometimes if they don't look alike they nail the mannerisms. Jason Reitmans best movie in a long while.

8/10, I recommend if anyone is at all interested.

Finally got around to A Complete Unknown last Sunday, was pretty good! I didn’t know much about Bob Dylan going in, so it was a cool watch for me for that alone. Biopics are awesome if you know a lot about a person, or absolutely nothing at all.

    9/10

I watched this romantic comedy on Netflix last night mainly for Sydney Sweeney. It’s a 6.5/10 but I’m usually generous with movie ratings. The movie has some weird pacing issues especially near the beginning. Aside from like one scene or two, I didn’t really even get a chuckle out of this comedy. The acting is done well enough though. I appreciated the different take on romance than normal and it not being so sappy most of the time.

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" introduces audiences to a world centuries after Caesar's reign, where the balance of power between apes and humans has shifted dramatically.

While "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" ambitiously builds on the mythology of the originals, it struggles to fully captivate in the same way as the Caesar-led reboot trilogy.

The narrative follows the journey of Noa, a young chimpanzee on a quest to rescue his abducted clan, but despite its promising premise, the film, at times, feels weighed down by pacing issues.

Director Wes Ball deserves praise for his visual craftsmanship, with breathtaking landscapes and impressive CGI bringing the post-apocalyptic world to life.

Performances from the cast are solid across the board, with Owen Teague delivering a compelling portrayal as Noa, showcasing the character's growth and determination amidst adversity. Yet, the supporting characters often feel underutilized, lacking the depth and complexity that made the Caesar trilogy so compelling.

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" ultimately falls short of its lofty ambitions, struggling to recapture the magic of its predecessors. While it offers glimpses of brilliance and expands the franchise's universe in intriguing ways, it ultimately feels like a missed opportunity to deliver a truly transformative cinematic experience.

In conclusion, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" may not reach the pinnacle of the Caesar-led trilogy, but it remains a commendable addition to the franchise, offering fans a fresh perspective on the enduring conflict between apes and humans.

    7.5/10

I laughed at the aliens quite a bit, especially that scene where it was staring at her in the red light while she was pinned to the ceiling. Same with that little alien

    The Harry Potter Series

for the last few weeks i've been watching a couple harry potter movies each week and today i finished the final entry. this was actually my first time seeing these movies. i really enjoyed them and i'd say goblet of fire was my favorite of them all. my favorite characters would be Dobby and Hermoine.

Yesterday my friend and I watched a really good movie.
    10/10
"Pretty Woman" is a romantic comedy released in 1990.
The storyline explores themes of class differences and how people can change their lives through unforeseen circumstances. With its lighthearted tone, charming performances, and the unparalleled chemistry between Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, "Pretty Woman" has become a cult classic in the romantic genre.

Last movie I watched was Ready or Not — pretty good! Nothing groundbreaking but it was a fun watch, good balance of comedy & horror which I don’t see succeeding a lot.
