The Street Fighter (1974)

this is an old Japanese kung fu/karate type film. i haven't seen many movies that fall under this category but i thought this one was pretty good. this movie is actually how the popular video game street fighter got its name.

The Marvels was so low stakes that I actually enjoyed it for the most part, the fights actually look like a human directed them which is rare for Marvel movies. I watched it on an airplane though so I didn't feel too burned giving it my time.

Watched Dream Scenario (7.5 - 8/10) Nic Cage gives a great performance and the premise is so Charlie Kaufman that it almost feels like plagiarism of an idea he hasn't even had yet. Feels like it doesn't fully commit to what it's trying to it's message at the end and tries to go for something more emotional which doesn't land fully correctly, but that could be something that I need to feel out better on a rewatch.

I have weird Tarantino blind spots so I watched k--- Bill Vol 1. Not much to say other than the man can't miss and it's really f---ing good, glad people like Tarantino are around and still have the sauce, gonna be a bittersweet day when his last movie drops.

Killers Of The Flower Moon is also great, 3 and a half hours long and still feels to short for the story it was trying to tell though. One of Deniro's best performances in a long time as one of the most evil characters in a movie full of sick people, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone are also incredible. Scorsese making such a harrowing film on its own but also tying it into a commentary on his own filmmaking career and the stories he chooses to tell is something I didn't know I wanted but I really appreciate that he made it.

Oppenheimer probably deserved most of the Oscar wins it got, for such a long movie it keeps a fantastic pace and Cillian Murphy is a powerhouse actor thar deserves more leading roles. Usually not as big of a fan of Nolan as others cause he feels like he's huffing his own farts and people act like nobody can touch him, but he is a genuinely great director (some extremely annoying sensibilities aside) and the rest of his filmography can prove that, even without those this is still more than enough proof.

Poor Things is a bit conflicting, idk what it is but I loved most of it and it's extremely funny and uncomfortable as it was meant to be but some parts didn't fully click with me on first watch and I don't even know what they were, but I also feel the urge to want to watch it again and also recommend it to anyone interested. I think it's because I'm just off of watching it and I need time for it to sink in but acting, score, cinematography, script, are all incredible and with some time away from it I can already feeling it growing on me. Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone give some of my favorite performances in 2023.
Also appreciate that it didn't hamfist it's message even though some movies call for that.

Also read that Captain Marvel 3 is offf the table right now, that's how bad this was. Same with Ant-Man 4 and Quantumania and Eternals and Eternals 2

I think Killers and Oppenheimer are boring tbh. I also tried to watch Dune again yesterday and I had to quit, I've only seen it full once and it's cause I let it play in the background while doing other stuff.

Tbf I'm a big movie nerd so even during slow parts I try to appreciate technical aspects, I didn't enjoy Dune part 1 as much as other people but I watched it on a small screen and needed to pay more attention. Need to watch it again at some point.

The Harry Potter Series

for the last few weeks i've been watching a couple harry potter movies each week and today i finished the final entry. this was actually my first time seeing these movies. i really enjoyed them and i'd say goblet of fire was my favorite of them all. my favorite characters would be Dobby and Hermoine.

glad you like it. have you seen volume 2?

most people prefer the first half but personally i think volume 2 is equally as good. volume 2 is just a lot different and its less action packed which is why i think people tend to prefer the first half of the film.

he considers it one movie. the only reason its broken into 2 parts is because of the length.

Still haven't seen part 2 yet, watched it with my sister-in-law so I gotta see if she's interested in finishing it. I heard part 2 has less action like you said but I'm completely fine with that, Tarantino is incredible at action but his dialogue is arguably more important to me anyways.

I laughed at the aliens quite a bit, especially that scene where it was staring at her in the red light while she was pinned to the ceiling. Same with that little alien

I don't mind the remake/prequel but nothing will beat the original. Gene Wilder's performance is brilliant.
