      The Strange Little Cat 2013
      ★★★½ Watched 19 Dec, 2016

A film without narrative where motif itself becomes the object of monotony to ruminate upon. Jokes, melodies, objects, and even camera angles repeat in meticulously measured increments for the sake of form itself.

      79/100 - Very Good.

Fincher nails the Hollywood storytelling conventions designed to impress average viewers. Good at best.

An entertaining youth film with a well crafted atmosphere, convincing performances, and a relatively solid production design. That said, it perhaps lacks a bit in maturity and would benefit from a more insightful subtext.

      69/100 – Decent.

A spectacular audio-visual experience lensed through a catholic-agnostic viewpoint with Brad Pitt’s voice over assuming humanity’s deepest yearnings, wonderment, and faithful ignorance. The words, like thoughts, shift from observation to rumination to curiosity, with each subject placed on screen given opportunity for reflection.

Needless to say, not everyone shares in Malick’s assumption of humanity, so the commentary, while at times brilliant and meditative, can feel onerous in how it uses individuality to pass… more

      ★★★½ Watched 06 Dec, 2016

Natalie Portman is utterly brilliant in her dynamic role as the vain but dedicated Jackie Kennedy. Nearly always in close up, her expressiveness breathes life and intimacy into Larrain's otherwise stiff structure and rhythm.

      78/100 - Very Good.

Well structured and novelistic, a Dostoevskien tragedy conveying self-isolation and effacement in face of of a life disarmingly out of harmony, where thoughts and actions misalign and communication barriers forge rifts between self and others. Deftly handled and extraordinarily sensitive to the inner struggle of not only its primary protagonist but those around him as well. With glorious landscape imagery, finely tuned push-ins and pull-outs during emotive scenes, and an indelible though perhaps assuming operatic-orchestral score.

      92/100 - Amazing.

I watched The Night Before last night. Not usually one to watch holiday s---, but I figured it was more of a comedy than a holiday flick. Wasn't bad. There were a few funny moments. Like Seth Rogan's character tripping. Worth the watch if you're not too critical of s--- and just wanna watch something with some holiday humor.

White Girl: A movie about gentrifying hipsters and White privilege. The daughter from Homeland does drugs and f---s everybody. Doug from The Hangover does drugs too and has coke snorted off his d-ck. Also starring underground NYC rapper Sene as the Puerto Rican d--- dealer. Thought he was better in this than in Luke Cage. Felt excessive but I guess that was the point. Not as bad as I thought it would be but nowhere near as good as Kids, which was clearly an influence. It's on Netflix right now for those interested.

    Love Actually

Okay movie. 2 hours long but with so many different stories/characters its difficult to really care for all of them/get into all their stories. Also too cliché ending. 7/10

    The Spectatular Now

Seen this years ago, rewatched it. Great movie. Very simple, not a big shot Hollywood, comedy/drama. 8.5/10

    Krampus

Yeah, kinda underwhelming but not bad at all. I liked the beginning but the action parts were a little lame imo. Nice ending part though. 7/10

Just watched 'the good neighbor' on Netflix, a lot better than I was expecting and didn't go how I thought it would. Very good movie. 9/10.

Also watched that new Rob Zombie movie 31 a couple nights ago, thought it was nothing special and not nearly as good as house of 1000 corpses or devils rejects. 5/10

          Certain Women 2016
          ★★★★★ Watched 04 Jan, 2017

Constructs resonant images of great affecting power by way of a measured Fordian rhythm befitting the women and town it at once profiles. These certain women have a certain power within, felt by those around them; Reichardt's compositions convey this power with a Bresonnian lack of embellishment. Sublime, austere filmmaking.

One of the best romantice drama/comedy I have ever seen. Mostly because it isn't just another typical romantic comedy. It feels so more real. The leads are doing an fantastic job and the support characters (including de Niro) are also great. Amazing movie. 9.5/10
