    Hero:
Along with House of Flying Daggers, a testament to Zhang Yimou's inimitable mastery of cinematic affect--episodic cinematography with moment by moment impact. And like HOFD, the narrative is incidental.

    90/100 - amazing.

I watched A Clockwork Orange this morning (and then The Good The Bad and the Ugly but I didn't finish it)

Big fan of Kubrick, not sure how I haven't seen it yet, 9/10 it was amazing.

Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond. One of the best docs I've seen in a while, displayed just how great of an actor Carrey really is. 9.5/10

    Dan In Real Life

Great performance again by Steve Carell. Some parts are kinda like, not how I think it would go irl, but are done on purpose for entertainment. Grear movie. Not one I would watcg again but for sure worth checking out.

      Hello Destroyer 2016
      ★★★★½ Rewatched 07 Dec, 2017

Taut, restrained drama on the moralities of masculinity, the perpetuation of violence in sports culture, and the hypocrisy of social values rising in contrast to accepted norms only when those norms have blatant consequences.

A hockey player shamed for doing what he was bred to do.

      87/100 - Excellent. (3th viewing)

Raucous comedy with great performances by a remarkable ensemble. Quirky fun and parody humour that gets out there.

Reveals the trials and tribulations of the Musqueam people whose land was taken, and whose culture was assimilated, so Vancouver could be built on its ashes. Uses Vérité interviews and observation to subtly request recognition of their land, culture, and history.

A signature Linklater in that characters are fleshed out through spontaneous, hanging-out style dialogue. The performances are great and its scope is admirably taut. It is one-dimensional, but this is justified for its personal--though unevolved--nature.

      79/100 - Very Good.

Relationship drama grounds a parallel narrative of supernatural and spiritual exploration. Neither of these two channels are developed fully, however.

I've watched so many films in the span of 6 months, but here is 3...

Caught this Noir for the first time Sunday morning on "Noir Alley" on TCM. This is probably John Garfield's best performance, besides 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'. Patricia Neal is the perfect 'Femme Fatale'.. great performances all around for the cast.. I need this Bluray.. 9.4/10

I don't give many films a perfect "10" rating, especially in this day and age.. but this definitely deserves it. A predictable ending, but I can forgive that.. amazing cast, and amazing film.. one of my favorites for sure.. 10/10

One of Woody's best films imo, and definitely in the top 5 of my favorites from him. The atmosphere was amazing.. and I loved the time period that the film takes place.. it feels like a neo-noir to me, regardless of it being a "comedy" for the most part. Steve Carrell is excellent and everything seemed to "click" with this film for me.. like I said, one of the best Woody films in a long time.. definitely enjoyed it.. 8.3/10

Deftly balances visceral action with poignant reflection. Deakins-like cinematography recalls Prisoners in a remarkable screenplay with committed performances by it's three primary leads. Each character holds their selves in captivity for circumstances out of their control. The struggle is real. Only Willoughby, nearing his death, accepts and lets go.

      88/90 - Excellent (4.5)

Sidemen: Long Road To Glory 2016
      ★★ Watched 11 Dec, 2017

Appreciate the concept, but grandeur is embellished in this presentation of 3 under-recognized blues musicians.

The thesis is repeated ad infinatum within a narrow framework which fails to actually mount their presence within the community which surrounded the birth and development of Delta Blues.

It ignores much of Delta blues (-->Chicago Blues) heritage, culture, and performers which would bring context and humility, and chooses instead to handpick the words of current musicians.

These three performers are important. We should recognize them. But let's be on the level rather than bloat them up for greater impact on blues noobs.

      57/100 - Okay.
