May 10, 2017 New song "Invisible." Mike sings the whole thing. LP also announced they'll be hitting the road with Machine Gun Kelly for a North American tour. No NY dates announced yet but they better make it up to us after canceling the show in Albany a couple years back.
May 17, 2017 Album leaked. Listened all the way through once, then listened to the songs I hadn't heard before a second time. If you hate the sound of the singles, you won't like this album. Personally, how you all felt during the release of this is exactly how I felt during the release of The Hunting Party. I did not like the harder sound. This album is certainly much lighter, much more processed. The attention to detail, however, is spectacular. This might be the first Linkin Park album where the production is its main selling point. Lyrically, I find One More Light to be a little generic which is surprising considering they brought in outside parties to assist with the writing process. "Talking to Myself" is the only place you're going to find guitars that actually sound like guitars and it isn't even one of the standout tracks. Likewise, "Good Goodbye" is the only track with Mike rapping on it. Chester's delivery is another impressive feat for this album. His signature scream is absent, but has been replaced with a croon that bends and breaks with every emotion he is feeling. Over the digitized beats, many of the songs sound like a version of The Chainsmokers that actually knows what they're doing. My personal favorite, "Sorry for Now" finds Mike and Chester switching places with the former singing and the latter half-rapping. The band sold "One More Light," the title track, as very heartfelt and depressing but cliché lines like "just 'cause you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there" hurt its overall presentation. The closer, "Sharp Edges," gives a nod to Ed Sheeran, completing the bridge from one corner of the pop world to the next. Not ready to give it a rating out of 10 yet but personally I enjoyed it more than The Hunting Party but with the simplistic lyrics it doesn't compare to their first few projects.
