Sep 24, 2019 Willie Lloyd is one of the hardest song of 2018. I still f---ing love that s---. That album is amazing with alchemist on the beats but I’m not huge Currensy fan. Piñata and bandana are both classics though.
Sep 24, 2019 d---, now that's what IME talking about. My exact music taste. On top of the guys people have mentioned in this thread already I'd also suggest YBN Cordae. And I can't believe no one has mentioned YG??
Sep 24, 2019 Thanks for the suggestions my man. Nice! I really like the song you posted from 2 Chainz. I initially had classified 2 Chainz with the "trash" hiphop artists so I never really bothered listening to any of his stuff. Currently downloading 2 Chainz album to see how it sounds as well as Denzel Curry's ZUU as suggested by @Sav Stanfield. Actually just noticed that I had 1 song from Denzel Curry in my music library which is Cash Maniac. Really good song. Thanks again and keep posting if anyone knows albums or artists that have not been mentionned yet. There are already a couple of guys that have posted in this thread that seem to be sharing a similar feeling about a lot of of the newer hiphop and are stuck listening to the same ole music. I'm sure this will help a few.
Sep 24, 2019 @Tonshor and @DJ Lithium the whole Griselda crew is doing a lot of 90’s/early 00’s throwback kinda music right now. Roc Marciano as well. A few albums worth checking out from them: Benny the Butcher - The Plugs I Met Conway - GOAT West side Gunn - Supreme Blientelle Roc Marciano has too many to name but Kaos (fully produced bubble DJ Muggs) was a recent great drop you’d probably enjoy. EarthGang just dropped an album called MirrorLand which everyone is freaking out about claiming they’re the next OutKast, so that might be up your alley. Also J. Cole and the Dreamville roster dropped one of the best albums of the year in Revenge if the Dreamers III, all the way through a much more ‘traditional hip hop’ listen, I guess you could say. And what about TDE? I’m sure you’d enjoy Jay Rock, Kendrick, Isaiah Rashad. I’d lump YG in this more west-coast based group of artists, here too, who’s made some of the best albums of the decade. Try out My Krazy Life or Still Brazy. And then the whole Beast coast movement. Joey Bada$$ sounds like he came out of 1998. Already mentioned Flatbush Zombies. Powers Pleasant just dropped a great EP.
Sep 24, 2019 ^typos, on mobile. Another one that occurred to me based on the list in OP is Brockhampton. Saturation 1, 2 and 3 sound like they were made in 2004. I’ve lost interest in them recently but you’d probably get a lot out of those tapes
Sep 24, 2019 Nice, Thanks bud. Finished listening to 2 Chainz album. Not a big fan tbh. But kept 3 songs. Just started Denzel Curry's album and d--- this first song went hard. Currently on the 3rd song right now and really liking what i'm hearing so far.
Sep 24, 2019 Finally didn't end up enjoying the rest of the album as much. Really liked "Zuu" and "Wish". The last track is interesting also but left out the rest. It's still better than nothing. I get to add some new songs to my library lol. There's still a lot of artists and albums to check out that in this thread. @Sav Stanfield you must listen to a lot of music, dude. A lot of those artists i've never heard from. You know you're s---.
Sep 24, 2019 Not trying to be a d-ck at all when I say this, but I think you'll learn to enjoy music a lot more if you try to ease out of the mentality that certain artists are automatically trash because they adhere to a certain style or are associated with a certain movement. We'll all always have our preferences of course, but I started having a lot more fun listening to music once I made an effort to throw out my preconceived notions and be more open to all styles and subgenres.
Sep 25, 2019 This has nothing to do with any pre conceived ideas. Seems like what you experienced. I listened to both albums with an open mind. The fact that I didn't enjoy 2 Chainz album has nothing to do with what I thought of him prior to that. I actually didn't think anything of him personally. Just didn't like a handful of songs that had heard from him so I had no real interest in diving deeper into his music. As for Denzel's Curry, it was literally impossible for me to have any preconceived ideas since I have never really heard of him before. I always go into an album with an open mind. But If I don't like the way a song sounds, after 1 or 2 listens, then it's usually not for me. The lyrics don't always have to be deeply meaningful for me to enjoy a song. But the beat or how the track sounds in general does.
Sep 25, 2019 Big Thanks for this. Started listening to some of his material yesterday. Really enjoying the Pinata album. Oh and this track alone is the best thing I have heard since starting this thread. Straight up flames. Definitely more up my alley.
Sep 25, 2019 @Sav Stanfield just out of curiosity, which of the Griselda members is your favorite? I’d say mine is probably Benny
Sep 25, 2019 I was more referring to the topic title and you calling 2 chainz a trash rapper. But that’s totally fair
