Jan 7, 2022 The transitions are dope. Production stands out. Good a--- album. Of course it has bangers. It’ll chart well all year. He has mastered the 80s electro pop sound. I hope next project he moves on from this sound...
Jan 7, 2022 All he did was turn it into 6 mins for no reason. Seems like I'll be playing After Hours and his older projects for another year.
Jan 7, 2022 Well you shouldn’t be thinking Encore would be as good as The Elder Scrolls. Those games are great
Jan 7, 2022 I guess it’s gonna be on a remix of “I heard your married” it should be dropping next week, probably Wednesday by the sounds of it.
Jan 7, 2022 2nd listen is much, much better. Listening on loudspeakers has improved the experience much more, but it’s still not a standout project.
Jan 7, 2022 There’s maybe a handful of songs on here that are cool. Outside of that…meh. I thought the same thing about “After Hours” & that was the first Weeknd project that never really grew on me. I can’t see myself revisiting this much tbh. His current sound just doesn’t really appeal to me.
Jan 7, 2022 I think his execution is brilliant on the 80s sound but it loses a lot of edge that The Weeknd is known for, his trilogy days of dark & eerie style are completely lost here, which is a shame as he can usually channel some energy for his newer projects to create a similar sound in areas, but it seems to be completely void here. Feels very cookie-cutter which he’s a lot more talented to succumb to this type of music IMO.
Jan 7, 2022 I feel like he wants to tap into style/sounds of previous greats so bad that he loses his own unique sound. I understand growing as an artist but you have to make the music your own. And he does do that here to an extent & has done it in the past very well too (think: Can’t Feel My Face) but I feel like he sometimes plays copycat too much with his music & doesn’t add his own element to it. I’m not expecting an album full of the dark, eerie, depressing music like the Birds Pt. 2 (though that’s when he’s at his best imo). He clearly wants to make more upbeat/uptempo music & that’s fine but make it The Weeknd. Best example is this masterpiece which I have no idea how didn’t turn into a radio hit.
Jan 7, 2022 Starry eyes should be part of is there someone else? It is clearly one song why they divided that in two?
Jan 9, 2022 I agree there's definitely the artistic value that makes it distinctively "The Weeknd" sometimes missing on the newer cuts & projects, can make it feel a little soulless at times, even if the music is still great. That being said, this new project is definitely growing to be more & more likeable with each new listen. Hopefully this has closed the 80s chapter of his career now though, which with the content, it appears that is the case.
Jan 9, 2022 As someone who absolutely loves After Hours, I don't think Dawn FM is a let down at all. First listen I thought it was meh but it's gets better and better with every listen Top 3 rn Take My Breath Less Than Zero Sacrifice
Jan 10, 2022 After a weekend on replay, this is f---ing great. Such a fun listen and cohesive album. It’s his safest album for sure, but he nailed it.
