Oct 1, 2021 I think the movie would have worked better as a limited series. It’s not bad but it doesn’t feel like it’s own thing. As a Sopranos fan, I enjoyed the Easter Eggs, the classic phrases. But I think 2 hours wasn’t enough for all of these characters. I’ve always wanted more flashbacks in The Sopranos and this felt like an extended flashback. I think for all the talk about how much of a legend Dickie Moltisanti was, it never truly came across in the movie. He was portrayed well but he didn’t seem like half the legend that the series made him out to be (Thinking specifically of that line Tony says about Dickie bringing the war to the New England crew). I see Many Saints more as a gift to Sopranos fans rather than a standalone film. It’s like what El Camino was for Breaking Bad.
Oct 2, 2021 Spoiler: Spoiler Harold was such an unneeded character. Movie would have worked without him. Jr who wound up having more of a pivotal role was barely in it. We didn't really get a good look at Tony, and Dickie was kind of boring.
Oct 2, 2021 I liked it... but I didn't go in w/ the highest of expectations. Will be curious to see if they do another that shows Tony slightly older in his 20's (read that could be a possibility)
Oct 3, 2021 Agreed, expected Dickie to be waaay more differently portrayed than he was in this. The syl and paulie castings were perfect though
Oct 5, 2021 Chase has expressed interest in producing a sequel to The Many Saints of Newark that follows Tony Soprano in his 20s, provided he could collaborate with former Sopranos writer Terence Winter. Upon hearing this, Winter replied he would do it "in a heartbeat. Absolutely."
Oct 5, 2021 Christopher Moltasanti narrating the movie is fantastic had low expectations...and it was decent movie...I enjoyed it junior soprano was my favourite character...the actor did a great job would have enjoyed a mini series with 6ep or 12ep over a film
Oct 5, 2021 Edie Falco filmed scenes as her character Carmela Soprano which were intended to start the film, but her scenes were cut. Taylor explained, "There was some confusion as to how best launch the movie. How to start the movie. So we tried a few things and that was one of them. If you've seen the movie you'll see that we begin it in a very different way now but that wasn't always the idea"
Oct 5, 2021 I had no idea Silvio/p---- were a decent amount of years older than tony...Paulie yes....but seemed like Silvio/p---- were closer to his age
Oct 5, 2021 It either should have fully committed to being a mob movie about the Newark riots OR to being a Sopranos movie...as it stands it's kind of just this tepid look at the Newark riots that has sopranos characters for some reason lol. It was cool. I loved the fan service but it was about what I expected. I think David Chase writing a non-Sopranos mob movie about the riots could have been really cool cuz you can def see the potential there. But if they went full Sopranos I def agree this should have been a 4-6 ep limited series to flesh things out. Wasn't enough time to be fully invested in Dickie like you were with all the other characters in the show.
Oct 5, 2021 Mini series on Dickie Moltasanti would have been great. 6ep would all that would be needed that actor did a great job imo
Oct 5, 2021 The actors are both older than Gandolfoni by 10+ years if that means anything. Anyways, I thought it was decent fan service and entertaining enough but not great
