Oct 8, 2024 Nightmare (1981) I can't remember where I got this movie recommended. Either someone talked about it in a YouTube video or someone talked about it on Twitter, I can't remember. Anyways, this movie had all the elements to be great, but it was just kinda boring and dragged, despite being a little over 90 minutes. Since @Michael Myers said he wasn't familiar with the movie, and likely everyone else isn't as well, here's a quick rundown. A young boy walks in on his dad having an affair, something in him snaps causing him to k--- both the mistress and his dad. Years down the road as an adult, he is in the mental hospital and is given a new medicine that is in testing that would reprogram his brain. Eventually, he escapes (sound familiar?), and heads from New York to Florida to k--- his ex-wife and children. The movie has some interesting moments and has that late 70's/early 80's slasher feel with the way it is shot and the gore effects, but is nowhere near how interesting the giants of the time were. I was just sort of disinterested for a fair chunk of the movie unfortunately, but I would still recommend giving it a chance! 6/10 Oct 2024 Horror Binge Ranking: 1. Oct 8, 2024 One thing I don't get. He killed his dad and mistress as a kid.. the as an adult he escapes and goes after his ex wife and children. How did he get a wife and children? Wasn't he locked up or? Also it kinda reminds me of A Clockwork Orange, have you seen that?
Oct 8, 2024 A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge I was a lot busier than I thought I’d be but I finally got around to watching this movie d--- near a week after I watched the first one lol. I’d say this is a step down from the first movie. A lot of the stuff I liked from the first movie like the creative kills are still here and amped up. However, stuff I disliked from the first movie is also still here and much worse such as the mediocre acting that doesn’t make sense at times. All in all, I still liked the movie though. I’m not sure if all the gay innuendos were done for laughs or if this was just a really progressive movie for the time. Based on the time this movie was released, I’m gonna go with the former. I gotta admit I did almost laugh at the spanking scene. I almost thought Jessie and Grady were going to become lovers. I think one of this movie’s biggest downgrades from the first is that Freddy really loses his mystery. It’s cool that that allowed them to do different, crazy stuff with Freddy, but at the same time I missed him being mysterious in the first movie. I feel like that fear of the unknown made him scarier before. He’s still kinda menacing in this movie but with all the gay innuendos it’s hard to take serious sometimes. I might be blowing the gay innuendos a bit out of proportion though, maybe my mind is just in the gutter lol. I heard “he’s inside me” one too many times. I gave the first movie an 8/10 and I like this sequel just a bit less so I’ll give it: 7/10
Oct 8, 2024 I have to say your review and score (especially the difference between 1 and 2) are kinda different to me. Part 2 is not bad imo but I think the first one is a lot better. The gay stuff, pretty sure it's joking because back then they weren't so obsessed with being "progressive". For the record having gay characters in movies is (and should be) normal but I hate when they sometimes put so much emphasis on it just so they can say "look at us we are so inclusive and progressive!!" It shouldn't distract from the main story imo. Like Mindy in Scream 5/6, great. Or the trans woman in Bienvenido a Eden. I watched a movie called 'there's someone inside your house' and I turned it the f--- off because of the woke bs. A shame really, since I liked the story itself a lot.
Oct 8, 2024 Music is more my thing than movies so I’m probably a lot harsher when reviewing music than when I’m reviewing movies. I almost thought about giving ANOES2 a 6/10, but with how much I still enjoyed it that felt a little too low. However, I could understand people rating it 6/10 or lower. I think I recall seeing some reviews online giving it a 5/10 and stuff like that.
Oct 8, 2024 I think I gave this a 6 or something. And the OG last year a 9. The difference between them is bigger than you got is what I meant. But yeah this is not bad and does have some cool stuff!! After 3 is when it really gets downhill until the best one
Oct 8, 2024 Aside from the big problem I talked about with Freddy losing his mystique, another big problem with ANOES2 is they lean way more into the weird/disgusting stuff rather than the scary stuff. I can sometimes appreciate the weird stuff but in this movie it didn’t necessarily work for me all the time. Freddy’s tongue coming out of Jessie’s mouth for instance was something I didn’t care for. It didn’t actually disgust me or anything, but it just didn’t do anything for me.
Oct 8, 2024 In between all the rewatches, a new one: The Strangers: Chapter One I gave the original Strangers an 8/10 and the sequel (altough its not really connected) a 7.8. Fantastic movies. This movie I've seen get very mixed reviews, with the biggest issue that it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. And I definitely agree with that to an extent. It has a lot of the same as the original... Tamara home, the dude shooting the wrong person, the woman being alone for a while, most of the ending. But they did add some other elements; the creepy town folk, the guy choosing to go after the girl that stalks them, the couple not having issues, a lot of it being outside the cabin. And the biggest: the ending. SPOILER; the woman survived. Yes technically the girl from the Strangers also didn't die but they never followed up on that story. Here it ends with to be continued.... I also have a feeling there is gonna be a backstory here involving the town people. I really want to judge this trilogy as a whole: if this movie is the start of a trilogy that eventually tries different angles than the OG (like some local legend or sacrifice or whatever) this could be cool. As a movie, like I said its not that much new, but I enjoyed it and am curious for the next chapter! Its no original or part 2 but it gets a 6.7/10
Oct 8, 2024 Finally found a proper download of Late Night w the Devil!!! Adding it to my list for the last week of october as it is a Halloween movie
Oct 8, 2024 Talk to Me This is such a nowadays movie. People on their phones all the time, check! Filming instead of helping, check! People addicted to something (being possessed lol), check! A transgender character, check! However most horror movies they at least try to make the characters more likable (mostly the lead), here they didn't. Most of them were assholes lol. The only one I kinda felt bad for was the sister of the kid that smashed his head. The lead, Mia, didn't give a s--- about her at all. Yeah she was going through a bad time, sure, but she made one bad decision after another. So I was not really sad about the way the movie ended. That said, it was an original idea, and there were some genuinly scary moments. I wouldn't call this a modern day classic, but very good effort. I also liked how they switched from the 'kick' of possession to Mia wanting to speak to her mom again, that was well done. 7.5/10
Oct 8, 2024 I must’ve missed that part too because when I was typing out the plot I was like, how does that work? Maybe I got distracted at the wrong time I have not seen Clockwork Orange but it has been on my radar for awhile
