Movie is still great, does the impossible of making both a sequel to Kubrick movie while also staying faithful to the story and themes of the book and making Stephen King like the original movie in the process.

Only negatives for me is that sometimes the child actresses line reads can be a bit stilted, some parts are very slightly goofy visually and at the end it gets a bit too nostalgia baity, some of which were studio executive decisions.

Other than those it was pretty much as good as you can get from a legacy sequel with fantastic acting, interesting characters, and solid themes part addiction and grief. 8.5/10 (maybe higher whenever I watch the director's cut)

You ever watch this @Michael Myers? not super scary since it's not as claustrophobic as the first movie but still really disturbing at parts

I've seen rumours that maybe its time for what JC originally wanted: a new Halloween themed movie every year.. man I love that. Tales of Halloween and Trick r Treat are great examples and those are just small stories in one movie.

I still think Halloween 3 was a great move but yeah they kinda forced them to bring back MM. I'm glad they did, since it got us Halloween 4, H20 and the trilogy... but now it needs something new. They can still have easter eggs or references to the Michael v Laurie story ofc.

But yess lets bring Halloween back!!

I haven't seen Doctor Sleep yet. I got doubts since its not really advertised as a horror movie. But perhaps I should give it a chance.

Its funny though, I'm planning to watch The Shining this weekend. Been many years since I've last seen it!

Yeah I honestly wouldn't classify it or much of Mike Flanagans work as horror per se, he sorta takes the Stephen King approach with most of his work where it's horror/disturbing things as a backdrop for really well written character drama at the heart of it. I'd say give it a chance though after you rewatch The Shining!

Man I gotta rewatch The Shining too at some point, it's such a classic and everyone is 10/10 in it. Especially Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall (feel so bad for her because of the aftermath of the movie tho lol)

    Last week I watched:

    Halloween 2007

I'm not sure if this really is gonna be an anual watch, even if I think its fine. The main issue I have is the characters. The funniest guy (Ronnie lol) gets killed very early and while I like the whole 'lets give Michael a motive' idea, it kinda takes away what makes the original series -except the thorn bs- good. The real star is Danielle Harris who returns after playing Jamie in Halloween 4 and 5. Laurie actress is so annoying.

The second part of the movie really just repeats most the OG with some changes. Its okay altogether. 6.5/10

    Get Out

Before Jordan Peele gave us the bs called 'US' we got Get Out. Its not a horror movie in the traditional sense, but its just very creepy and makes you uncomfortable. The acting is really great and the 'twist' is also interesting. Seen it once before, but yeah this is just really good. 8/10

Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark

It takes place on Halloween which is always a plus for me. The story is kinda fresh even if it has some clichés in it. But I like it and the young cast is doing a decent job. Nice movie overall. 7/10

Watched 2 today, started out in september but spooky season has officially started!

    The Shining

Okay, this is probably not a popular opinion. I think the movie is creepy, the setting is really great and (especially for that time) very well made. But it's a total mess. The movie's title is about the ability of the son, but its barely explored. The main story, about Jack going crazy, is also rushed. They should have made a mini series about this... and today I found out, they did. And that also follows the book more than this movie. Even though the movie is almost 2 hours, they go over things so quickly it's a shame really. Imo they could have ditched the whole 'shining' thing and focus on Jacks story. Like, Danny's psychic thing made that dude travel for days only to get killed right away, which was pointless. And w Jack, there are more questions than answers: is he trapped in a loop? And if so, what role do Danny and Wendy play? The director said he was a reïncarnation of the caretaker, but that also leads to so many questions. Where the ghosts hallucinations? And if yes how did that old man open the door for jack? I know horror movies have stupid s--- all the time, but there is so, SO much potential here. I think I'll go watch the tv series if I can find it anywhere lol... since it follows the book and its longer so hopefully will explore more. As for 'the shining' psychic stuff goes.. I hope its sequel (cc @jankland ) will give some more attention on that.

This seems like I'm totally trashing it, I think it really is a creepy and solid movie. But it wants to tell too many stories in 2 hours. 7/10

    Happy Death Day 2u

As I said to @Marsh the other day: this movie was not needed. The first one was perfect and one of the best modern slashers. A good balance between teenage drama, comedy and horror.

This one is way more out of balance. I wasn't interested in why she got stuck in a time loop, knowing it was some stupid machine only makes it worse. The opening was kinda cool, and close to the first movie. And I also like how the different dimension had some changes. The best part to me was when the OG characters returned (even if they were different in a way). But the nerd-squad scenes made me cringe. Instead of watching a slasher I felt like watching Star Trek or some other geek s---. In the first movie there was this constant survival mode, here I never felt like anyone was in danger: the problem was if the nerds and Tree could find the formula in time lol. In the end it was all about boy and girl getting together, and I did like the twist w her mother, but it was a little too much drama/comedy and not enough slasher for me. Should have left it after 1, even if its still pretty enjoyable. Also hope there isn't gonna be a 3rd one since its impossible now to go back to horror. 6,5/10

Yeah from what I understand Kubrick kept all of that intentionally vague and it was more explored in the book (although I'm not sure about the reincarnation thing cause by that time in the book the hotel gets burnt down instead of staying up), which I'm sure is one of the reasons Stephen King is not as big of a fan. That on top of Jack basically already acting like a psychopath before he got to the overlook lol.

I won't say anything about Doctor Sleep to not sway opinions but I think you might like the story more!

I also watched a bit of the mini series but not enough to give an opinion, need to go back and watch the rest but I remember liking the little I've seen.

Yeah the reincarnation thing was said by the producer of the movie, in which the hotel wasn't burned down. But then still there are a million questions.
But I think the movie made Jack from a normal dude into a lunatic way to quickly and never explained why the woman and kid weren't affected. Hope the series focusses more on that gonna watch it sometime, same as Dr. Sleep!
